It gets rammed on a Thursday once the weekend crowd comes out to play, and until 8pm, you can get two-for-one on select beverages, making your start to the evening a little bit cheaper. Cobra Kai This is one of the trendiest spots to have opened up in Dubai Media City in recent times. Arriving at Media One Hotel along with the conjoined Mr Miyagi’s, in the space where Crab Tavern and Spirito once stood, Mr Miyagi’s and Cobra Kai are two hotspots you need to visit. Expect funky décor and neon street signs in both and hops pong in the latter, which is reminiscent of an Asian street market. In Cobra Kai, you’ll also see silent screenings of classic ’80s movies including Karate Kid (of course) and Top Gun. Get selected house drinks for Dhs25 from 4pm until 8pm every day. Open daily 11am-2am. Happy hour: daily 4pm-8pm. Media One Hotel, Dubai Media City (04 420 7489).
Cargo Pier 7 is one of our favourite spots in Dubai. It’s already chock full of brilliant bars and resplendent restaurants, but it also offers up some spectacular views of Dubai Marina. Soak up those Marina views from this industrial-themed bar, where you can get a variety of selected mixed drinks, hops and grape beverages from Dhs25 between 5pm and 8pm every day. Open Sun-Thu 4pm-2am; Fri-Sat noon-2am. Happy hour: daily 5pm-8pm. Pier 7, Dubai Marina (04 361 8129).

Open daily noon-midnight. Happy hour: noon-7pm. Souk Al Bahar, Downtown Dubai (04 706 0900).
McGettigan’s DWTC This is one of our favourite Irish spots in all of Dubai, and McGettigan’s is always a top place for great craic. If all the live music and live sport don’t grab your attention, then its five days of promotions will. Between Sunday and Wednesday you can get special prices on hops (Dhs33) and all other selected drinks (Dhs29). Meanwhile Thursday sees the arrival of That Thirst-Day Feeling between 4pm and 9pm, where prices drop even lower – a glass of grape goes down to Dhs19, and house beverages Dhs25. Open daily noon-2am. Happy hour: Sun-Wed 2pm-7pm; Thu 4pm-9pm. Building 8, Dubai World Trade Centre (800 6247).
