Oktoberfest is coming to Dubai, and that means the most exuberant, fun-loving and musical German hops festival is nearly here.
Bars up and down the city are donning their lederhosen, polishing the steins, preparing some pretzels and cooking up some currywurst. This year is going to be big, and here are eight places where you can get into the festive German spirit for one of the most celebrated months of the year.
Head on over to any of these seven bars and restaurants across Dubai to get in on the Oktoberfest action. Tuck into the specially curated Oktoberfest Burger – a bratwurst in a pretzel burger bun, with German hops cheese sauce, caramelised onions, sauerkraut and currywurst mayo – all for just Dhs90. Barasti One of the city’s coolest beach clubs is challenging punters to come and do their wurst (get it?). Celebrate the giant German festival with a ten-day event at Barasti, where German rock group CHAOS die Partyband will be residing for nine of the ten nights between Thursday September 21 and Saturday September 30. Timings vary on the band’s performances, though, and are subject to change so head to www.barastibeach.com for the latest info. BOCA BOCA is getting in on the action this year, with a Mediterranean version of Oktoberfest from Saturday September 16 until Tuesday October 3. Enjoy a range of Italian and Spanish craft hops paired with BOCA’s tapas, starting from Dhs65. Brothaus Bakery - Bistro Welcome to Brotfest, with Brothaus celebrating Oktoberfest with a month-long celebration deserving of its name. There’ll be schnitzel, bratwurst and lebkuchen (German gingerbread) and packages of hops, plus take part in stein-holding competitions, eating contests and more. There’s also the brand-new Brothaus Biergarten terrace to enjoy too. Weekend brunch on Friday and Saturday will also carry the theme between noon and 4pm, with packages starting from Dhs195 for soft drinks, Dhs350 for the hops package and Dhs400 for a package including the German herb beverage. Der Keller Literally translated to mean “The Cellar”, this ominously titled bar at Jumeirah Beach Hotel is celebrating in style. From Friday September 15 to Wednesday October 4, head down to one of the longest-serving establishments in town for a special buy one, get one free promotion on select German hops. Grand Hyatt Dubai Now this is a big one. A dedicated Oktoberfest hops tent, lederhosen, pretels and a whole bunch of German hops. German band Die Kirchdorfer have been flown in all the way from Munich too, to give you a real Bavarian vibe. Open between Wednesday October 11 and Saturday 28, get your hands on a buffet on opening night for Dhs195 (soft drinks), with hops charged separately. Hofbräuhaus Have some authentic German fun at this little piece of Germany right here in Dubai. For the last 20 years this hotspot has been celebrating Oktoberfest in style, so head over for some classic dishes, pints of German hops and live traditional music courtesy of a live band flown in from Germany especially. The festivities will run from Thursday September 28 until Saturday October 28. From Saturday until Wednesday enjoy an à la carte menu, while on Thursdays and Fridays enjoy a special Oktoberfest buffet at Hofbräuhaus, which costs Dhs120 for food only and Dhs180 for a buffet plus a pitcher of hops. Long’s Bar There’s a three-day Oktoberfest celebration happening at Long’s Bar at the Towers Rotana on Sheikh Zayed Road. Head over between from Thursday September 28 until Saturday 30 for 30 percent off house beverages, plus a wide range of grub including bratwurst, schnitzel and more. Sep 28-30, noon-3am. Lucky Voice Not so much a German hops hall, more an after party featuring the German herbal beverage. Head over to the fun-loving club from 8pm until 3am on Friday September 29 for some big tunes, huge entertainment and a perennial party vibe. Fri Sep 29 8pm-3am. McGettigan’s One of Dubai’s favourite Irish pubs is getting in on the Oktoberfest action, with special food and drinks promotions running across all of its pubs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Head down between Saturday September 16 and Wednesday October 4 for a range of promotions, including Dhs99 for a German sausage and premium hops pairing. Sat Sep 16 to Wed Oct 4. QD’s 2.0 Head to Emirates Golf Club’s QD’s 2.0 between Wednesday October 4 and Saturday 14 to celebrate Oktoberfest. Enjoy a range of traditional Bavarian brews, plus live entertainment and games. The Dome From Thursday September 28 until Saturday 30, join in with a huge Bavarian celebration of all things German, from hops to sauerkraut. There will be an all-new outdoor area, plus live music from Die Derbys (“die” in German translates to “the”, by the way). Vantage In honour of Oktoberfest, Vantage has launched Vantagefest, where a range of German imports will be available and on display at Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates hotel.
