From seaside spots to lofty locations, these eight bars will wow your guests
Got visitors in town with a hankering for an evening out in surroundings they wouldn’t find on their favourite soap back home? Dubai has them covered. Here’s how you can impress your guests with somewhere less familiar.
40 Kong It won’t take long before your guests realise how essential Sheikh Zayed Road is to Dubai. And if they’re intrigued by how this fabulous thoroughfare might look from above, take them to this vibrant haunt at The H Dubai. With its ultra-modern aesthetics, brilliant bird’s-eye view and staff so jovial you’d think they were family, 40 Kong is a sure-fire hit. Book a table, though, as it soon becomes heaving with punters entranced by its arboreal centrepiece (one of many pleasant surprises here). Open daily 7pm-3am (from Tuesday October 10). The H Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 355 8896).
101 Dining Lounge & Bar Even before you hop upon a buggy (or boat) to this One&Only outpost, you can’t help but feel a sense of immense anticipation. And once you’ve disembarked, neither you nor your company will fail to be wowed by 101’s beauty. Of course, you’ve been here before, so we needn’t wax lyrical about the vistas, drinks menu or fine fare that has spread its Spanish roots to something more pan-Continental. Perhaps you need reminding, though, so give it a whirl once more. Open daily 11.30am-2am. One&Only The Palm, Palm Jumeirah (04 440 1030).
360˚ Panorama is not purely a current affairs programme but also the theme of this remarkable nightspot overlooking the Burj Al Arab. At the weekend, this is the place to see and be seen, but if you fancy enjoying its serene times, head down during the week. Then, you’ll be greeted by laid-back tunes as you take in the stunning sunset, a world away from the huge club nights it’s most famous for. Open daily 5pm-3am. Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Umm Suqeim (055 500 8518).
At.mosphere Luxurious loftiness is something Dubai is renowned for. If the height-fearing among you have managed to dodge the Burj Khalifa for most of your stay, only insanity (and perhaps hypnotherapy) will keep you from this super structure indefinitely. Hit the lounge and you’ll get brews with a view. Minimum spend Dhs250 per person until September 30, Dhs320 per person thereafter. Open daily noon-4.30pm, 5.30pm-2am. Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai (04 888 3828).
Bahri Bar As show-off spots go, few can match Bahri Bar, especially if you want to immerse your guests in the majesty of Mina A’Salam. If your female friends are in tow, try out Bahri Bar on a Tuesday night (ladies get three glasses of bubbly), but on any evening, the sheer chilled charm and top-notch Burj Al Arab views will induce such gratitude that your arms will ache from all the high-fives. Open Sat-Wed 4pm-1am; Thu-Fri 4pm-2am. Jumeirah Mina A’Salam, Madinat Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim (04 432 3232).
Breeze Beach Grill Something that never fails to amaze us is Dubai’s ability to produce pockets of party towns. Take Club Vista Mare, for instance. Resembling a sailing club (without the snottiness) it has an array of hip hangouts, none cooler than Breeze. Industrial in its décor, laid-back in its vibe, this place offers a novel taste of the city with views to match. The happy hour is particularly popular and if you’re not in the mood for surf shack-style snacks, you can always shift next door to the amazing Ají. Open Sun-Wed 11am-midnight; Thu 11am-1am; Fri 9am-1am; Sat 9am-midnight. Club Vista Mare, Palm Jumeirah (04 568 3000).
Jetty Lounge When your tireless Time Out team seek a post-work ponder a stone’s throw from the office, you might well find us here. Why? Well, Jetty Lounge seems as distant as our deadline-meeting demands could possibly be when we saunter over and delight in having the beach under our brogues. The views are joyful (as are the posh fish fingers) and if your pals are happy to accompany you on a screen break, this might be just what HR ordered. Open daily 2pm-2am. One&Only Royal Mirage, Umm Suqeim (04 399 9999).
Weslodge Saloon Consummately cool with a Canadian credo that offers both refinement and rock ’n’ roll in equal measure, there’s much to admire about Weslodge. The bar staff are knowledgeable and welcoming, while the vantage point from the 68th floor of the world’s tallest hotel makes for conversation even when your buddies’ jet lag kicks in. Go for the views, stay for the tunes. Open daily 6pm-2am. JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai, Business Bay (04 560 1700).
