It’s World Vegetarian Day on Sunday October 1, so to celebrate your inner (or outer) herbivore, we’ve rounded up a whole bunch of dishes available to you throughout Dubai. Bistro Des Arts – Poached egg and asparagus Treat yourself to this cheeky little starter at Marina Promenade’s Bistro Des Arts. A poached egg laid upon a bed of asparagus covered in tomato béarnaise sauce. Lovely. Dhs47. Daily 7.30am-11.30pm. The Address Dubai Marina (04 551 1576).
Carluccio’s – Pumpkin panzerotti Homemade pasta stuffed with pumpkin, then tossed in pumpkin sauce (for an extra pumpkin kick) alongside chilli and garlic. El Sur – El Sur rice with seasonal mushrooms and black truffle It’s all about the mushroom with this dish. Spanish Arroz meloso is a creamy Spanish rice dish flavoured with mushroom sauce and truffle paste then garnished with shimezi mushrooms, grated black truffle and shiso leaves. Dhs110. folly by Nick & Scott – Butterhead, crème fraiche & mustard seed Interestingly, this is made with the puree of locally grown and organic butterhead lettuce, set using leaf gelatin, crème fraiche and lemon juice. It’s then dressed with mustard seems simmered in honey and mustard poder stock, and red onion that’s been lightly pickled. A real treat. Dhs55. Sun-Thu noon-2.30pm, bar noon-late. Mint Leaf of London – Crisp greens, avocado and mango salsa This fine-dining Indian restaurant has some brilliant vegetarian options, including this cracker. Crispy fried shisho leaf over a bed of avocado and mango salsa, topped with chutneys and freezing dhokla. Dhs70. Sat-Sun, Tue-Wed noon-1am; Thu-Fri, Mon noon-2am. Publique – Fresh goats’ cheese balls What more needs to be said? This Alpine-themed bar is serving up a selection of flavours rolled and filled with fresh goats’ cheese. Dhs68. Daily noon-2am. Souk Madinat Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim (04 430 8550).
Tub of Butter – Salad The name might be simple, but this is a list of ingredients to behold. Roma and dried tomatoes, basil, pulled buffalo mozzarella, ruccola, drizzled with basil-infused oil and a balsamic reduction. We’re already salivating. Dhs62. Daily 7am-11pm. Ultra Brasserie – The Ultra Veggie Burger A potato and pea patty stuffed with fresh tomato, basil pesto, oakleaf, alfafa and beetroot ketchup. A seriously vegetarian veggie burger. Dhs52. Various locations including Dubai Marina (04 227 5644) and Downtown Dubai (04 420 4572).
Via Veneto – Insalata Caprese A classic. Stracciatella and mozzarella di bufala, heirloom tomatoes, taggiasca olives, basil pesto, black olive oil and herb oil. A top combination ideal for almost any occasion. Dhs52. Daily 8am-midnight. Manzil Downtown Dubai (04 242 7882).
And if you’re in Abu Dhabi on Sunday October 1… Bocca – Parmigiana di melanzane in crosta An Italian classic, which features deep fried aubergine, confit tomatoes, parmesan cheese, stracciatella of burrata and basil. This variation also features a smidgeon of filo pastry to give this baked dish an extra crispy edge, and uses burrata (a Dubai favourite) instead of mozzarella. Dhs45.
