It’s almost the weekend, so yay all round. And as the build-up to Christmas continues, we’ve got a bunch of festive specials to go alongside the usual amount of brilliant stuff to do in Dubai this weekend. From Elton John, to a Christmas market, to gruelling physical challenges, this weekend has got it all.

Axe House It’s the long-awaiting arrival of a craft hops bar in JLT, and Axe House is due to officially open on Tuesday December 5.
Between 5pm and midnight on Tuesdays, ladies’ get four drinks for free, but everyone (gents included) get two for one on house drinks until midnight. Mixed groups will get a 50 percent discount on the entire menu. On Wednesday from 5pm until 10pm, you’ll get a complimentary bottle of grape with every sharing platter ordered, and the daily happy hour runs from noon until 8pm, with two-for-one on every drink at the bar.
For food you can expect menu items that reflect London’s diversity, like Notting Hill jerk chicken, Brick Lane tikka salmon, a “Day Trip to Brighton” seafood platter and the Portobello veggie burger.
For sports fans, there will be a 100-inch TV screen showing all the big sporting events, as well as a pool table, air hockey table and pong games.

Brunswick’s Big Aussie Brunch It's nearly Christmas and Brunswick Sports Club is bringing a taste of Australia. Celebrate the holidays in true Aussie-style, so grab your mates, don your boardies and toss a few shrimps on the Barbie. Dishes include potato salad, grilled prawns, steak, roast leg of lamb, pavlova and a tonne more. Expect big beats and live acoustic music throughout. “DIFFerent Reality” is coming back to town for the second year, with an eclectic mix of movies and unique experiences that, according to DIFF, “challenge the boundaries of traditional film and take willing audiences on a journey of 360-degree, 3D, audio-visual cinema”.
Taking place between Wednesday December 6 and Wednesday 13, DIFF will present ten fully immersive movies made for VR at the special du VR Cinema, located at Madinat Jumeirah’s events and conference centre.

du Tough Mudder 2017 There’s still time (just) to register for the event taking place on Friday December 8 and Saturday 9, with prices starting at Dhs420 for the obstacle course at Hamdan Sports Complex.
It’s an untimed and team-orientated challenge with immense obstacles that, according to the team behind it, are “designed around the values of courage, personal accomplishment, teamwork and fun”.
The final straight of the course, and the last thing standing between you and the finishing line is just a short, muddy sprint. A short, muddy sprint with dangling exposed wires that threaten to deliver a 10,000 volt jolt. The course says it’s their way of saying congratulations.

Dubai Winter Festival Dubai Winter Festival will return to Dubai Media City Amphitheatre from Wednesday December 6 to Saturday December 9, bringing with it a whole host of festive fun and attractions.
In addition to the shopping opportunities and hosting a Santa’s Grotto, giant Christmas tree, gingerbread decorating, snow play zone and Christmas pantomime shows, this year’s event has a whole range of new attractions designed to get grown-ups as excited as kids. Electric Swing Circus at Scarlet Cardinal Scarlet Cardinal (the new live music bar in JBR) is this weekend welcoming The Electric Swing Circus, a live six-piece fusion of swing and electro beats – very on trend. With a huge sound hailing beats of years gone by, ESC cover everything from rock to electronica, house and rock n roll, all with a classy hint of swing. The band has performed in some of the largest and most well-known music festivals including Glastonbury, so expect a bombastic performance. Doors open at 8.30pm, performance starts at 10pm. Elton John Due to a severe bout of gastric flu, Sir Elton John postponed his originally scheduled December 2016 show, and again in January this year. The show has now been set to take place on Friday December 8 – and the Rocket Man singer is “looking forward to seeing you all there and promises an amazing show”. Dhs295. Fri Dec 8. Harry Potter live at Dubai Opera Following a successful run in Abu Dhabi in September, Dubai audiences will now also be able to experience the Czech National Symphony Orchestra performing the music to the entire Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, live.
The musical extravaganza will take place at Dubai Opera from Thursday December 7 to Saturday 9.
If you were part of the original Potter pandemonium, you’ll be thrilled to know that you can relive all the original magic of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in high definition on a 40-foot screen, while the Czech National Symphony Orchestra perform John Williams’ breathtaking score, live. Les Mills Live Fitness fans, put the date in your diary – Les Mills Live is coming to Dubai on December 9.
You can reserve up to six classes on booking, and the event will be hosted by Les Mills programme directors Rachel Newsham and Lisa Osborne, who will be visiting the Middle East.
And Dubai will be one of the first to experience the new work-out, Bodyattack 100.

Mojo Gallery in Alserkal Avenue This Alserkal Avenue will be hosting a special pop-up event for a brilliant cause this weekend – Dubai-based social enterprise, Blessed. Head along for a fashion show that will funds to support cancer patients across the city. Created by cancer survivor, Lama Riachi, Blessed clothing line features cool and minimalistic pieces including t-shirts, dresses and tailored shirts. All proceeds of the sales go directly to cancer patients undergoing treatment in Dubai.

Reform’s Winter Market It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Reform Social & Grill. Celebrate the season at the bar’s Family Winter Fair. Expect a bunch of brilliant festive grub, plus plenty of goings-on for the little ones, like Santa’s Grotto, a bouncy castle, some little Christmas presents and some mulled grape for the grown-ups. Rooftop Sunset Yoga To help keep you relaxed and in prime condition before the ludicrously busy Christmas period, you can now head to a rooftop sunset yoga session on Saturday December 9 for a 90-minute session at the Sheraton Grand Hotel Dubai on Sheikh Zayed Road.
The one-off event is running as a primer to launch the brand-new yoga sessions on Saturday December 16 at the hotel’s Soul Wellness and Spa. Time Out Dubai’s Christmas Jumper Party Taking place on Thursday December 7 at Lucky Voice, one of the city’s liveliest new nightspots, the Time Out Dubai Christmas Jumper Party is set to be bigger, woollier and more kitsch than ever.
Kicking off at 6pm, the huge festive party is open to all, with a free mulled grape or house beverage for everyone who turns up wearing a Christmas sweater. What’s more, there’ll be two-for-one deals on drinks, pizzas and karaoke through to 9pm.
It wouldn’t be Lucky Voice without some knock-out entertainment, and it wouldn’t be a Christmas party without the chance to look just a little bit daft. XLine Bookings are now open for the long-awaited, and hugely anticipated, XLine Dubai Marina.
It’s the world’s longest urban zipwire, coming in at 1km, where thrill seekers from across the country will come and experience speeds of up to 80kmh, whooshing through the Marina at an incline of 16 degrees.

Zero Gravity Dubai’s Zero Gravity is launching its biggest-ever beach music festival, set to take place across Thursday December 7, Friday 8 and Saturday 9.
The award-winning beach club’s three-day event will see the Ibiza House Orchestra make their Dubai debut. Assembled from some of the most talented musicians living on the White Isle, the Ibiza House Orchestra is claimed to be the biggest, freshest and most exciting live orchestra the Mediterranean island has ever seen.
US DJ and producer Throttle, known for smash hit Hit The Road Jack and his collaboration with Galantis on Tell Me That You Love Me, will also hit the stage over the weekend.
Alongside all the action on the main stage (located on the beach), there will be heaps of activities to keep festivalgoers entertained.
