Out this weekend? Check out these top bars found in the very happening JBR
The nightlife scene in JBR has undergone a barnstorming transformation over the past few months, so whether you’re new to town, looking to explore, or wanting to get to know the changing face of your neighbourhood, here are ten bars you need to try out, starting from the top end of The Walk.
Black Tap The New York City export first arrived at Jumeirah Al Naseem last year, and it has wasted no time in plotting its Dubai takeover. From hipster brews to massive shakes, this trendy urban spot is making waves. Open Sat-Wed 11am-midnight, Thu-Fri 11am-1am. Rixos Premium Dubai, JBR (04 399 9076).
Inner City Zoo One of the trendiest and swankiest new nightclubs hitting town in late 2017 was this beast. It’s intimate, but don’t let its size fool you, this place is tip-top for a party. Head down late in the evening to catch it in full swing, and don’t expect a quiet night with the club boasting state-of-the-art audio and visual get-up. There are live dancers and top DJs, too. Open daily 11pm-3am. Rixos Premium Dubai, JBR (058 867 5357).
Lock, Stock & Barrel JBR – The Walk When our Bar of the Year announced it was expanding out to JBR, the excitement around Time Out Towers was palpable. This one is twice the size of the Barsha Heights original, and its ambitious scale doesn’t see the bar lose any of the charm. It still has live music, pool tables and top bar food. Open Mon-Fri 4pm-3am, Sat-Sun 2pm-3am. Rixos Premium Dubai, JBR (04 520 0049).
McGettigan’s JBR Another of Dubai’s favourite institutions that’s been on something of a growth spurt, the Irish pub’s fifth Dubai bar brings something of a refreshing twist on many bars in the area – it’s smoke-free. That aside, it looks and feels like McGett’s, and that is winning it loyal punters already. Expect the same craic, grub, sport and beverages that you’d find at its JLT, DWTC, Souk Madinat and Dubai International Airport siblings. Open Sun-Thu 12.30pm-3am; Fri-Sat 10am-3am. Hilton Dubai Jumeirah, The Walk, JBR (04 453 5267).
Pure Sky Lounge When all is said and done, sometimes you just can’t beat a top view out over the Arabian Gulf, and this place delivers it in spades. Set up on the 35th floor of the Hilton in JBR, this white-washed terrace bar has views of the Palm in one direction and the Ain Dubai development on the other, so it’s great for visitors. Open Sun-Thu 5pm-2am; Fri-Sat 2pm-2am. Hilton Dubai Jumeirah, The Walk, JBR (04 374 7888).
Amsterdam Hub This is a pretty trendy sports bar, obviously inspired by the Dutch capital. With swathes of tellies adorning the walls, this place was built through a love of football. It’s the sort of place you’ll find barrels for tables and industrial-looking seating. But you’ll find it comfortable, and it adds a welcome sports bar to the JBR nightlife scene. Open daily 4pm-2am. Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach, JBR (050 423 1823).
JB’s Gastropub One of the more established pubs on The Walk, JB’s has industrial fixtures and a warm vibe. It’s big, it’s spacious and it’s more often than not busy. With good happy hour deals and some proper pub grub, it’s a smashing place to while away some time. Open Sat-Wed noon-2am, Thu-Fri noon-3am. Amwaj Rotana, JBR (04 428 3084).
Tr!beca Kitchen + Bar This bar sits somewhere between Dubai institution and cult favourite. Whether you’ve been there for hip-hop karaoke, some good-natured musical fun at the weekly open mic night, or a bite to eat at the chilled-out Friday brunch – there’s a lot to love about this industrial bar inspired by the New York City neighbourhood of the same name, found at the JA Ocean View Hotel. Open Sat-Mon noon-2am; Tue-Thu noon-3am; Fri 1pm-3am. JA Ocean View Hotel, JBR (050 345 6067).
Ramusake The ladies’ night here is one of the busiest in the city – and is so good that it won an award from us for it in 2017. Try heading along on its busy nights without a reservation and you’re likely to leave disappointed, so make sure you call ahead to guarantee a great evening at this Japanese-themed bar. The food is worth trying, too. Open daily 4pm-2am. DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Dubai – Jumeirah Beach, JBR (04 559 5300).
Copper Dog This brilliant pub has come all the way from Speyside, Scotland, to the shores of the emirate – and the native theme is strong. Expect a huge choice of Scottish beverages, some tasty homely pub grub (think pies, fish and chips and a mean weekend roast), plus a decent happy hour. There’s a pool table to keep you entertained, too. Open Sun-Thu noon 2am, Fri-Sat 10am-midnight. DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Dubai – Jumeirah Beach, JBR (04 559 5355).
