1 1 OAK In a city full of opulent and exclusive bars, this New York city export is promising to crank things up a notch, as long-awaited arrival 1 OAK landed on the Dubai scene at the start of March. It has a dark, gothic chic look, and this party hotspot has room for 500 people. 1 OAK has a reputation as a major A-list celebrity hangout Stateside, so expect some of the same swagger over here. “With the launch of 1 OAK, we are starting a new era for Dubai’s nightlife scene,” says CEO of Bulldozer Group Evgeny Kuzin, the team behind the club here. 2 961LB Meanwhile, over at Al Seef, 961LB has been welcomed onto the nightlife scene as one of a handful of licensed spots at the sprawling Dubai Creek destination. The bar originated in Lebanon, so expect live music and an engaged crowd when the place kicks off at night, plus some top dining options the rest of the time. 3 Bar Baar The Music Room, Time Out Dubai’s Best Live Music Venue 2017 has now been replaced by Bar Baar, an Indian gastropub found at the Majestic Hotel Tower in Bur Dubai. It positions itself as a social, live music and enterpreneurial hub, with some cracking grub and different “zones” located around the bar suited to different purposes, all with the aim of bringing through the concept of the communal living for which Mumbai is known. True to the site’s history, you’ll also find some great live music sessions every week. Open daily noon-3am. Majestic Hotel Tower, Bur Dubai (04 501 2631).
4 BARBARY Deli + Cocktail Club Now this is a wonderful addition to the nightlife scene in Barsha Heights – an area that has been increasingly growing in popularity thanks to bars including Lucky Voice and Lock, Stock & Barrel. Already drawing a sizeable crowd on a nightly basis, BARBARY fuses Dubai flash with a bit of a retro, New York edge. This is a bar where you’re best off booking ahead on the weekend – it’s busy, serves decent food, and has a very cool vibe. Open Sat-Mon and Wed, noon-2am; Tue, Thu and Fri noon-3am. 5 Drai’s Dubai All of a sudden, the home of Dubai’s horse racing scene has become a top contender for the home of nightlife in the city as well. In the master Soho Garden complex, opposite The Meydan Hotel, you’ll find this Las Vegas import – a sprawling, amphitheatrical day-to-night pool club that oozes swagger. It’s a concept that, as well as chilled days by the pool, dishes up some classic R&B and urban stars on a regular basis. Think Craig David, Nelly, et al. Ladies’ can visit on a Tuesday for a bit of a knees up, with Dhs100 getting you unlimited drinks from noon until 5pm. Tue noon-9pm, Fri 1pm-midnight. 6 Gotha We’re still waiting for the opening of this cool new nightclub, which was scheduled for the start of March. Gotha, which originated in Cannes, will add a touch of Southern French glam to Dubai proceedings. It will be housed in the Radisson Blue Hotel Dubai Waterfront in Business Bay, an area that is rapidly up-and-coming in terms of dining and nightlife. Little information on long-term plans have been announced, but there are promises of truly massive music acts and superstars, and we can’t wait. Open Wed-Fri 11pm-3am. 7 Seven Sisters Another Beirut arrival, and another bar heading to Business Bay, in the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai. Seven Sisters is promising some stunning views of the Downtown Dubai skyline. The terrace bar is set to launch in March, and also says we should look forward to a range of “innovative events, providing a unique experience” for Dubai’s social scene. Watch this space. 8 Soho Beach Another addition to the massive new nightlife destination that is Meydan, is Soho Beach. Part of the Soho Garden complex, Soho Beach is an enormous day-to-night pool club with an 8,000-capacity venue that will be playing host to huge international DJs and artists throughout the season.
