Manga Sushi: “Irashaimase!” - two cute girls in Japanese high-school uniforms with funky hair colours welcoming us to the sushi bar? It’s like a dream. The place is small, but offers a lot to compensate for that. There are many classic manga comics available for you to read, anime figures from popular series and five plasma screens showing different animes and a joyful soundtrack of familiar j-pop. Although it might sound a bit too much for casuals, they do however offer great Salmon Sashimi and Chicken Katsu Curry at reasonable prices.
Friday’s: No we’re not listing this in for the dance. We love this place for their steaks! Our favorite is the chef’s special Flat Iron Steak, which is so delicate and juicy you would swoon over it! Tastes like heaven too, with a little bit of mushroom sauce, and grinded black peppers for extra kicks. Finish it off with their little dessert cups which we call sweet shots, choices from chocolate mousse, strawberry and cream, snickers blast and more.
Johnny Carinos: Who doesn’t like Italian? Seriously. This is one of the best restaurants out there to enjoy mouth-watering meals at affordable prices. Try the delicious breaded calamari and Italian nachos followed by the sizzling Chicken Diavolo - an ideal causal restaurant to just sit back and enjoy a good meal with your mates.
Fuddruckers: This is the ultimate venue to hold our competitive endeavors when it comes to excessive eating habits and guilty pleasures. The only reason we come here is to dare each other on a pound of minced beef burgers. They are huge and very tasty too. Although they might come off as greasy for most, I argue that it is still a burger after all and one would expect such qualities. The last one to finish would pay the bill! No, not the hospital bill.
Romano Macaroni Grill: “Lasagne Out of the House!” yelled the waiters. That was the first thing we heard the minute we walked in. The place was bustling with hungry customers and waiters with food trays everywhere. We asked our waiter what’s the fuss about the lasagne, and he simply said “Its your first time here isn’t it?” Taken aback, we ordered one each. It is seriously the best lasagne we have ever tasted. Try it.
Reem Al-Bawadi: We feel like home here. The place is so relaxed, with the large screen soundlessly playing old black and white Egyptian movies, the traditional live Arabic singer, the backgammon tables crowded with lively guys and the bubbly sensation of the shishas with tantalizing fruity aromas. The food reminds of the home-made delicacies our old aunties used to cook. The grilled dishes in particular are superb and keep the hummus coming, we assure you with texture like that you won’t have enough of it. It is also very rewarding to indulge in their shishas and spend the evening chatting and having a laugh together. After all it is a very sociable environment reminiscing of the busy cafes of Lebanon.
Wagamama: Meaning “Selfish”, and selfish we are! Wagamama serves the best Ramen around Dubai, and their Steak Teryaki is hard to resist as well. The theme is very simple with a blend of traditional Japanese and modern Western setting. They also serve alcohol and it is an ingredient in some of the dishes so do ask before ordering. Overall an exciting place to be with a mixed crowd craving wild Japanese dishes.
Ruby Tuesday: Another favorite of ours, a classic-American dining experience. Very casual and relaxing atmosphere. Their garden bar is lush with greenies and fresh assortments of salads. The main attraction here would be of course the burgers. The menu ranges from extremely light bites to hearty mouthful ones, guaranteed to satisfy every appetite! The staff here are very friendly and attentive, and they mentioned that if we don’t like our burgers, they would give us another one for free! There was no need for that though, the burgers were great.
On the Border: You might not believe us, but honestly we have tasted one of the best nacho dishes you could ever find in Dubai at this place. Bottomless, hot, and extra crispy, with a tongue twisting salsa dip. Their Chicken Baja is the best choice for a hearty lunch with its extra cheesy flavour. The only problem we had was that we were too excited with the nachos and managed to make it our main course. Did we say how good the nachos were?
Pizzeria Uno Chicago Grill: We believe that Uno has the best menu layout and design of all the restaurants and grills of its calibre. It is presented in such a way that would double your hunger instantly and you could end up ordering much more than you can handle. You would probably call it a marketing scheme, we call it art. The joy of eating is to truly indulge and enjoy every bite, and at Uno you will. Stuffing pizza crusts and juicy beef ribs with their special barbeque sauce makes it worth your while. The chef loves us at the Deira branch; although he does fear we might eat ourselves to death.
