The Sheraton is looking good after its multi-million dollar revamp in 2002. Stunning from the outside, with its tower and thrusting waterfront extension, it’s slick but straightforwardly businesslike within. A huge escalator leads the way up to the dimly lit foyer, where suited executives sink cappuccinos and munch fresh-baked muffins. The tower rooms offer one of the most elevated views over the city, a panoramic snap of the Bur Dubaian shoreline framed by heavy curtains.
The rooms are comfortable, and while they don’t exactly ooze character you can cheer yourself with the fact that they’re excellent value for money. The key advantage of this hotel for tourists is its location – though the Sheraton is far from the beach, it is a short skip away from the abra station, the gold souk and the cultural oasis of Shindagha, and within walking distance of a string of other hotels’ restaurants and bars.
