The Jumeirah Rotana Dubai is cheekily and misleadingly named: it is actually found in the shore-free area of Satwa rather than beachy Jumeirah. That said, this busy hotel has a casual atmosphere and a 50/50 mix of business and leisure guests.

The spacious and light bedrooms come complete with generously sized beds, plenty of wardrobe space and entertaining views over the back streets. Decor is typical bland Americana: although comfortable, it’s nothing to write home about. The hotel offers a shuttle service to the Hilton beach club, Mercato and Sahara shopping centres.

With its reasonable rates, the Jumeirah Rotana is the perfect place to stay if you’re on a family budget trip, and solitary business travellers will enjoy stretching their legs outside on the ever-bustling Al Dhiyafa Street. But if you have a peaceful weekend away or romantic hotel escape in mind, look a little further down the road, towards Al Sufouh.
