Al Qasr Hotel, Madinat Jumeirah

The ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Madinat Jumeirah resort Reviews

Friday Brunch

The Al Qasr brunch is famed for its size (guests are handed a map on arrival) and is sure to impress visiting relatives. This said, there is a feeling it spreads itself thin in places. Dhs450 (soft drinks), Dhs550 (selected house beverages, mixed drinks and sparkling grape), Dhs250 (children aged four to 12), free for children under four Timings: 12.30pm-4pm (Friday)

More stately and ostentatious than its sister Mina A’Salam, Al Qasr was designed to reflect the royal summer residence while providing the ‘jewel in the crown’ of the Madinat resort. It’s certainly grandiose; the huge lobby with Arabian lanterns and plump cushions leads to an opulent cigar lounge, continuing the theme of the Mina A’Salam, although the bedrooms here are larger than those in its sister hotel.

What makes Al Qasr stand out, however, is its 24-hour butler service (not quite the Burj – here you have to share your Jeeves with 11 other rooms), its 2km of private beach and its proximity to the Talise Spa, one of the most sensational spas in the Gulf.

There are club executive (kid-free) lounges and a kids’ club as well as a separate pool, so although Al Qasr is family friendly, you can also have an adults-only break without much intrusion. Transportation through the immense resort is through both water taxis and golf buggies.

The food is fantastic - but it's just too big. I couldn't be bothered to walk around searching for things. They also have a station serving steak - but then nothing around in the vicinity that goes with steak - so went on a tour looking for veg or salad etc. I know they have maps - but I don't want to do a course in orienteering - just some food!!!!

I stayed here in Nov 2005 and it was amazing, we have just returned today adter a week half board, some aspects have definetly slipped, a cpl of members of staff had the wrong attitude including arguing amongst each other in front of us and other guests. The poolside bar is showing signs of extreme wear and tear behind the bar, the receptionist explained the half board offer to us but was totally wrong, had to have a manager explain it to us again, the 20 or so places to eat are soon narrowed down as some are bars, lounges, not open for dinner etc etc.

On a positive note the rooms are amazing, even the standard ones with a garden view which was amazing overlooknig the gardens. Some of the staff around the pool are fantastic, and most are very commited. Great fun using the Abras and the golf buggys to get around in the heat of June.

I would recemmond using the house taxis, they use Lexus cars and the drivers are far more experienced and safe than the goverment taxis who tend to speed and tailgate all the time. 90dhs for an airport run each way, worth every penny.

Overall a great place, some of the staff need re trained to bring them up to the standard that people expect from this company and price.

I love the Al Qasr Brunch. The variety of dishes is astounding, the quality of food is excellent, and the service is always friendly and attentive. It would be nice to be served real bubbly, especially if you've booked for a special occasion, but with so many other drink choices available you don't feel like you're missing out when comparing it to other brunches that do serve the real thing. The only downside is the price, but even though I'm occasionally tempted to try somewhere new (and cheaper), I invariably end up coming back here because the entire experience is unbeatable.

We love this place. With so many brunches now more expensive, this would be our only choice and only on a special occasion.
