Fairmont Dubai
Huge and stylish hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road Discuss this article
An elegant beast of a hotel, the Fairmont juggles the requirements of both business and leisure guests in some style. Catering to the former, the hotel sets high-tech standards in the city, with wireless internet connection in all rooms and comprehensive in-house IT support. At the Fairmont’s centre is a massive foyer graced with groovy leather sofas and a huge atrium, its walls splashed with every tone of colour to head-spinning effect. Bedrooms are spacious, with large beds, huge windows and well-chosen furnishings – although again they suffer from the ‘more is more’ approach to colour. The minimalist bathrooms, though large, will seem sterile by comparison.
A keen eye for detail is evident in the two pool areas on either side of the building – the sunset and sunrise decks – which have been decorated with stunning mosaics to reflect their respective themes. There’s an impressive health club, plus the pricey but first-rate Willow Stream Spa. Because the hotel is situated as close to town as the Sheikh Zayed Road will allow, its lively restaurants pick up a lot of local trade. Oh, and you can’t miss it: set directly across from the Trade Centre, it has four illuminated turrets which change colour throughout the week and have taken on a unique place in Dubai’s cityscape.
