The Habtoor serves both beach-bound holidaymakers and business travellers well, but at rather hefty prices. There’s an impressive stretch of beach as well as two floodlit tennis courts and a well-equipped gym to work out in.

The rooms are quite conservative, but the bathrooms are ornate; decked out in green mosaics and those tiny glass sinks that were fashionable a few years ago.

If you fancy some pampering, the Elixir Spa has a good range of treatments on offer. Like most Dubai hotels, the Grand also caters for business travellers and tends to get the details right; if you want a fax machine installed in your room, flights booked or travel arrangements confirmed, consider it done.
