Think not of beautiful views – construction sites surround the hotel– but of convenience; the Arabian Park Hotel is close to the airport, the World Trade Centre and Wafi City Mall.

Rooms – there are 318 in total – tend to be on the small side, but are comfortable and simply but tastefully decorated. The place also plays host to a decent-sized salt water pool, a bar and a well equipped gym; although it can get crowded if more than four fitness fanatics decide to visit at any one time.

Added attractions include a communal lounge on each floor complete with a plasma TV, a mini library and friendly and efficient staff.

Unfortunately, getting a taxi can be a bit of a nightmare and while the hotel has its own cars, these tend to cost more than normal metered cabs. Still, this is a good value contemporary three-star option that knocks spots off some of the city’s dated four star hotels. It’s worth knowing that rates – while not expensive to start with – practically halve during summer months.
