The ‘Master of Horror’ talks about and reads from his mega-selling series’ The Saga of Darren Shan and The Demonata, plus (we hope) he will offer festival-goers a sneak preview of his new book, The Thin Executioner. Age 10+

11am Polly Dunbar
Dance the wiggly-woo and blow raspberries at Penguin in this interactive session with stories, drawing and puppets. Age 4-6

12.30pm Caroline Lawrence
Discover the tricks of the trade in this illustrated ‘How to Write a Good Mystery’ talk by the author of the best-selling Roman Mysteries series. Age 8+

2pm Ian Whybrow
Meet the creator of Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs and enjoy readings, songs and games as he shows you how his books are put together. Age 4-7

3.30pm Fatima Sharafeddine
Join this story-telling session where Fatima selects some of her favourites, including the award-winning Mountain Rooster. Age 4-7

3.30pm Roger McGough,
Roger wrestles with morality, seeks love in the launderette, snaps Henri Carter Bresson in Liverpool and jives in Macca’s trousers in ‘That Awkward Age’. Age 14+

5pm Michelle Paver
Reindeer-hide mittens, a ringed seal pelt, part of an antler (but no wolves!) – just some of the items Michelle shows you when she talks about her amazing research trips for the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series. Age 8+

6.30pm Conn Iggulden
Teacher turned best-selling author of the deliciously subversive Dangerous Book for Boys, Conn tells how he escaped the classroom and chats about his latest book, Tollins: Explosive Tales for Children. Age 8+

8pm Gervase Phinn
Laugh-aloud entertainment from the former schools inspector whose tales of life in the Yorkshire Dales reveal a shrewd eye for character and irrepressible sense of fun. Young adults+
