Most wanted stuff for kids

We track down the hippest stuff for the coolest kids

Shop ‘n’ smile

A charity initiative with a difference, Smiles ‘n’ Stuff is a craft shop and café combo that helps integrate young people with special needs into the working community. The store sells all sorts of cool, handmade crafts created by students at the Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs, including T-shirts, wooden crafts, paintings, tea towels, handbags and stationery. It’s brilliant if you’re browsing for gifts with a difference. Every dirham goes towards supporting the staff and creating the products, and once you’ve had a good glean, kick back and sample some of their excellent cookies and coffee.
Smiles ‘n’ Stuff is at the Al Noor Training Centre for Children with Special Needs behind Mall of the Emirates. Open daily from 9am-2pm and 4-7pm. See www.alnoorspneeds.ae or call (04 340 4884).

Night-time natter

Now that school’s out, it really doesn’t matter if they stay at a friend’s house and spend the entire night giggling and nattering away. Make their night with these handy ‘Slumber Party’ games cards – perfect for the ultimate girly sleepover.
Dhs55, SoBoHo, Dubai Marina Mall, (04 434 2535).

Travel light

Don’t load yourself down with an ultra-heavy über-buggy while on your summer hols. Instead, pick up one of these babies. Durable, lightweight, easy to fold and available in three funky colours, they’re great value – and perfect for tots on the go!
Dhs119, Babyshop (04 266 1519).

Super-duper dollies

We love the new Liv dolls, which knock all other current fashion fillies of their ilk into a cocked hat. The fab foursome reminds us of our childhood Sindy dolls, who were well-made, fully posable and eminently collectable. The Liv dolls, named Daniela, Katie, Sophie and Alexis, are unique in that they have interchangeable wigs, proper glass eyes and 14 movable joints for extra playability. They also come with their own cute canine pals, and can be accessorised with a fully jointed pony and even a 30-piece lodge play set.
Learn more about the Liv pals on www.livworld.com. Dhs129 each, at Hamleys, (04 339 8889) and Toys R Us, (04 206 6564).

Ear ear

Have you seen the latest headphones from Virgin? With the Hulk, Spiderman, Sponge Bob and more all making an appearance, you’re virtually guaranteed a peaceful, silent flight.
Bliss! Dhs69, Virgin Megastore, (04 341 4353).

Growing like weeds

Keep track of your growing sunflowers this summer with this gorgeous giraffe wall chart mural. It’s the stylish way to measure wee monkeys from teeny tots to towering tweens. So much better than making pen marks on the door frame – and you can take it with you if you move house.
Available in pink and blue, Dhs325, from Wall Cravings, www.wallcravings.com.
