Go bonkers for Barney, see a musical and more family fun

EDITOR’S PICK Go bonkers for Barney
While many people find this oversized, slightly camp Tyrannosaurus rather irritating, there’s no denying that children adore him. He’s only in town until Saturday, so book now and get down to Dubai Airport Expo early to secure a ringside seat, or there’ll be tantrums and tears to contend with. Barney is bringing his friends with him too, and they’re all going on an expedition across the universe in the live Barney’s Space Adventure stage show.
Dhs125-Dhs500, 11am and 6pm, until June 4. Dubai Airport Expo, near Dubai Airport, www.timeouttickets.com

Friday 3

EDITOR’S PICK Magic of the Great Musicals at Ductac
Don’t miss this all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza at Ductac. The musical theatre show, called Magic of the Great Musicals, is a tribute to classical musicals of the MGM era. Expect songs from The Wizard of Oz, Kiss Me Kate, Meet Me in St Louis and many more. There is a tale to it all as well, starring Dorothy and Toto, who are trying to find their way back to Kansas, but keep ending up on classic movie film sets. A dazzling performance involving a cast of 180 performing students.
Dhs75. 5pm, until June 4. Ductac, Mall of the Emirates, www.timeouttickets.com

Saturday 4

Arts for good
Let your pint-sized Picassos get stuck into a range of arts and crafts – all in the name of charity. The Lavender Drive is organising cookie decorating, canvas painting and flower pot painting for nippers aged three and above, with all proceeds from the event going towards helping children with cancer as part of The Lavender Drive. Spaces are limited to 30 kids per session, so call Ola at The Craft Studio Dubai to guarantee a spot, although walk-ins will be welcomed on the day.
Dhs125 per child per activity. 10am-6.45pm. Media Rotana, TECOM, www.thecraftstudiodubai.com (050 453 8841).

Indoor flea market at the Crowne Plaza Dubai
The days of racing against the competition to get your bargain under the balmy sun at Safa Park are now over for the summer. But don’t despair, because your favourite Flea market is now operating at a number of indoor, air-conditioned venues throughout the city. The first indoor market kicks off today.
Dhs5 entry, in aid of Dubai Autism Centre. 10am-3pm. Crowne Plaza Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road, www.dubai-fleamarket.com.

Sunday 5

Monday 6

EDITOR’S PICK Don’t miss George’s Marvellous
Medicine If your brood loves the world-famous novels by Roald Dahl, they’ll love this stage show at the First Group Theatre. Watch George concoct his incredible mixture then give it to his ghastly grandma who really does get ‘bangers in her bottom’ and then proceeds to grow so tall, that her head breaks through the roof of the house. Guaranteed to be an absolute blast – especially for those who have villainous, grumpy grandparents.
Dhs130-Dhs150. 4.30pm, until July 8. First Group Theatre, Madinat Jumeirah, www.timeouttickets.com

Tuesday 7

Settle that sibling rivalry
Are your kids constantly fighting and bickering with each other? Enrol in a weekly workshop and learn a range of sanity-saving tips from parenting guru Therese Sequeira. A former teacher and parent educator, Therese runs a range of classes to help parents develop positive strategies that really do work.
Dhs60. 8.30am-10am. KidsFIRST Medical Centre, Umm Suqeim (04 348 5437).

Wednesday 8

Fun at Fun City
Take the little monsters for a session at the newly refurbished Lou Lou al Dugongs – an edutainment centre with water play, sand play, a jungle gym, soft play, a mini supermarket, kids’ library and free tot cooking classes laid on every hour. For one payment at the door and no additional costs, it’s brilliant value for parents who want their kids entertained all day. And there’s a sanity-saving café so you can sit down and relax too. Suitable for children aged two to 10.
