EDITOR’S PICK Cool off in the pool with movies in the moonlight
Take in a movie under the stars while you splash away in the pool. Even though it’s ridiculously hot already, you can still enjoy some fresh air by night – and what better way to start the weekend than with a communal family movie at Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club? Tonight’s line-up is cute animation Ice Age 2, screening at 7pm, followed by singalong classic The Parent Trap at 9pm.
Dhs35 (adults) Dhs20 (kids aged four to 12). Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club, near Arabian Ranches (04 361 8111).

Friday 17

EDITOR’S PICK Support the lads at Soccer Circus’s football tournament
Wannabe footballer dads and their budding Beckham lads can get all competitive with their dribbling and bending at the parent-organised football tournament taking place at Soccer Circus. The five-a-side matches are open to teams of under-sevens and under-nines. What are you waiting for? Go on son!
Free. 3pm-6pm. Soccer Circus, Mirdif City Centre, www.playnationme.com (800 534 7873).

Saturday 18

EDITOR’S PICK Star Wars night at Dive-in Movies at The Montgomerie
For all those Star Wars fans who can’t get enough of Wookies, droids, Stormtroopers, Jedis, little green warriors, nasty black-clothed baddies with bucket-heads and more, get down to The Montgomerie
for an evening of immersion in the pool. Tonight’s movies are Star Wars V and VI (that’s The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi for those who don’t know). The Dive-in Movies evenings are the perfect way to cool off outside during the summer evenings. Poolside munchies are available at additional cost.
Dhs45; free for under 12s. 7.30pm. The Address Montgomerie Dubai, Emirates Hills (04 390 5600).

Sunday 19

Spoil your dad silly on Father’s Day
Unlike mums, who enjoy three Mother’s Day dates every year (the UK, the US and the UAE one), dear old dad only gets to be nurtured for one day – and that’s today. So make a point of bringing him a cuppa
in bed, giving him the TV remote, and then taking him out for a slap-up supper. Ping Pong at The Dubai Mall is offering a bargain Father’s Day dinner: dads (and mums) can stuff themselves silly for Dhs80, and kids under 13 eat for free. That’s bound to put a smile on the old man’s face – especially if he’s paying.
Prices vary, Open Sun-Wed 10am-10pm; Thu-Sat 10am-midnight. Ping Pong, The Dubai Mall, www.pingpongdimsum.ae (04 339 9088).

Monday 20

EDITOR’S PICK Take the monkeys to Modhesh World
Yes, Modhesh World is back for the summer (it opens today), and you can expect all the usual entertaining activities at this spacious, air-conditioned indoor fun park located at Dubai Airport Expo. Although the admission cost is low, you do pay for all the individual rides, which include log flumes, mini roller coasters, dodgems, train rides and the ubiquitous jungle gym and soft play area. It can be a fairly pricey session, especially if you have more than one child, but it’s a great place for your kids to enjoy a noisy run-around. Call for timings and prices.
Modhesh World, Dubai Airport Expo, www.dubaievents.ae (600 545 555).

Tuesday 21

Take a parenting workshop and save your sanity
Are your kids complete monsters at the checkout? Do you end up opening packet after packet of snacks just so you can keep them quiet? Does your toddler regularly throw a paddy in the cleaning products isle? If this sounds like your shopping nightmare, book yourself a place on the Shopping with Kids workshop with parenting guru Therese Sequeira. A former teacher and parent educator, Therese runs a range of classes
for parents, and her tips really do work.
Dhs60. 8.30am-10am. KidsFIRST Medical Centre, Al Wasl Road, www.parentingdubai.com (04 348 5437).

Wednesday 22

Mall mania! Dubai Summer Surprises starts today!
Yes, the little yella fella – that cheeky Modhesh chappy with a spring for a body – will now be part of every mall trip you make this season. Dubai Summer Surprises is back and will be running heaps of fun activities for little kids (and big ones) in all the major malls across town, alongside sales in most of the main stores. Don’t miss out!

Fun for mums with little ones
If you’re at a loose end with your tot, why not pop along to the mums and tots circle at Dubai Festival City? Mums get to relax and have a sociable chinwag, while the little ones get their dose of fun for the afternoon. The club has indoor and outdoor facilities, and delicious home-made snacks are provided.
Dhs20 per child. 3pm-5pm. Al Areesh Club, Dubai Festival City (050 397 1026).
