Power up for the Powderpuff Girls and see dolphins and seals
EDITOR’S PICK FREE! Power up for the Powerpuff
Girls Head down to Al Ghurair City for some serious girl power as the Powerpuff trio take to the stage. It’s a beautiful, busy day in Townsville – until the Townsville Recycling Plant machine breaks down. The pint-sized heroes, Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, arrive in the nick of time to find that a non-recyclable item has got caught in the machine. They then set off to find the culprit.
Free. Sun-Thu 8am-6pm. Al Ghurair City, Deira, www.dubaievents.ae.
Cool off in the pool with movies in the moonlight
What better way to start the weekend than with a communal family movie at the Desert Palm Polo Club? Tonight’s line-up is Madagascar, screening at 7pm, followed by Cats & Dogs at 9pm.
Dhs35 (adults); Dhs20 (kids aged four to 12). From 7pm. Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club, Arabian Ranches (04 361 8111).
Brunch bunnies at the Mövenpick Deira
This Deira hotel is running a family brunch every Friday. As well as plenty of food, there’s a supervised kids’ corner full of activities for little ones, including learning games, bouncing balls, a drawing area and much more. Relax with the family and enjoy the international buffet in Jigsaw restaurant. There’s also the option to brunch in Wok, which serves a mouthwatering array of Asian cuisine.
From Dhs119 (adults); Dhs50 (kids aged seven to 12); free for children under six. 12.30pm-4pm, Mövenpick Deira, Abu Baker Al Siddique Road (800 33472).
EDITOR’S PICK FREE! Feel the magic at Mercato’s Fantasia show
If your little tykes are into all things magical and mysterious, don’t let them miss the Fantasia stage show at Mercato. The show, which tells the traditional tale of a wicked sorcerer who steals from a nearby village, but is then defeated by a quick-witted boy, promises to be a big hit with viewers large and small. There are also lots of other fun events and promotions on at Mercato, including street performers and workshops for children.
Free. From 4pm. Mercato Mall, Jumeirah, www.mercatoshoppingmall.com (04 344 4161).
Take a trip to Dreamland Aqua Park
Miss the weekend crowds and enjoy the chilled waters of the lazy river, while the little ones burn off their energy in one of two fab kids’ pools. One of the UAE’s largest waterparks, Dreamland has something to offer everyone, from air-conditioned restaurants for hungry dads to a mini menagerie of Shetland ponies, deer and peacocks, which will doubtless prove a hit with animal-loving tots. And if you really love it, why not book a night in an air conditioned cabana, and get 30 per cent discount on the usual price?
Entry Dhs135 (adults); Dhs75 (children and students). Open daily 10am-6pm. Umm Al Quwain, www.dreamlanduae.com (06 768 1888).
Kids eat for free at Toscana
Want a night off from the kitchen? Head to the Madinat and snap up free kids’ meals at this popular Italian venue. Enjoy fresh oven-baked pizza, a fabulous array of pasta dishes, as well as some traditional Italian cuisine influenced by home-made recipes. Your kids are bound to find a dish that suits them, which means no cooking, no washing up – and its light on your wallet too. Bellisimo!
Adult prices vary. Open daily noon-midnight. Souk Madinat Jumeirah (04 366 7630).
Play hard at Magic Planet
We love the Magic Planet play centre for little ones at Mirdif City Centre. With its natural wooden decor and all manner of climbing, sliding and role-play areas, as well as a fantastic three-storey jungle gym, little monkeys will certainly be able to burn up a few calories and wear themselves out, rather than driving mum and dad crazy. And if you have trouble dragging them out, just bribe them with a ride or three in the children’s arcade area – if they promise to come quietly.
Dhs30 per hour. Open daily 10am-midnight. Playnation, Mirdif City Centre (800 534 7873).
EDITOR’S PICK See the live Dolphin and Seal Show
Watch spellbound as these amazing animals perform a raft of incredible tricks, which include walking on their tails across the water, juggling with their noses and doing some impressive disco moves. There’s also a dolphin painting display, which makes you realise just how smart these water-bound mammals are.
Dhs120 (adults); Dhs80 (kids). Shows Mon-Sat 11am and 6pm, with 3pm performances on Fri-Sat. Dubai Dolphinarium, Creek Park, www.dubaidolphinarium.ae (04 336 9774).
