Go mad at Modhesh World
This year, the little yellow fellow has moved from his usual haunt at Dubai Airport Expo to Dubai World Trade Centre. There are heaps of activities including funfair rides and games for kids of all ages, as well as playgrounds, soft toy areas, the latest video games and a 4D cinema. It’s all indoors and it’s all fully air conditioned, so your kids can run around the huge venue without getting heatstroke.
Dhs10 per person; free for kids under two. Open Sat-Wed 10am-10pm, Thu 10am-midnight, Fri 2pm-1am. Until August 25. Dubai World Trade Centre, www.dubaicalendar.ae (600 54 5555).
City of Friends show at The Dubai Mall
As part of Dubai Summer Surprises, The Dubai Mall is putting on free stage shows for kids. Today’s offering is called City of Friends – and will most likely include some pretty wacky singing and dancing as part of the line-up.
Free. Daily 4.30pm-8pm. Until July 8. The Dubai Mal, Downtown Dubai, www.thedubaimall.com (no number).
See turtles being released into the wild
Don’t forget the big turtle release at the Madinat Jumeirah beach at 8.30am. It’s open to the public and you can watch as more than 100 turtles are released into the sea after being rehabilitated at Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Centre. It’s a great opportunity for children to gain some insight into the importance of the Gulf marine environment and the work of the turtle rehab centre.
Free. 8.30am. Madinat Jumeirah, facebook.com/turtle.rehabilitation (no number).
Cool off with movies in the pool at Cine-Splash
Watch a movie from the pool at Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club’s Cine-Splash session. Tonight’s line-up is Spongebob Squarepants at 7pm, followed by Wizards of Waverly Place at 9pm. Food stations serving hot dogs, popcorn and the like are also on hand to feed hungry film buffs.
Dhs25-40 per person. Thu-Fri 7pm-11pm. Ongoing. Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club, Arabian Ranches, www.dubaipoloclub.com (04 361 8111).

There’s also heaps of entertainment to keep kids occupied, including a large bouncy castle, face painting, movies, games and a Nintendo Wii.
Dhs100-195 (free for kids under six). Sat 12.30-3.30pm.
Ongoing. Mazina, The Address Dubai Marina (04 436 7777).
Have a blast at iFly
High-flying, adventure-loving tots can experience the thrill of skydiving in iFly’s wind tunnel, which churns out gale forces of 200kph to keep you suspended in mid-air. There are trained instructors on hand to show you the ropes, but be warned – the powerful airstream makes dribbling an occupational hazard.
Dhs195 per person. Open Sun- Wed 10am-11pm; Thu-Sat 10am- midnight. Ongoing. Mirdif City Centre, www.theplaymania.com (800 836).
Mums-and-tots ice skating
Share the thrill of the ice with your little one at Dubai Ice Rink’s mums-and-tots skating sessions: for the first session of the day, the pair of you will pay just Dhs50. An instructor is also on hand to help you both through the wobbly stages – perfect for tots aged two to seven.
Dhs50. Daily 10am-noon. Ongoing. The Dubai Mall, www.dubaiicerink.com (04 448 5111).
Head to Bowling City at Dubai Festival City
Featuring 12 lanes, kids as young as four are welcome to play, with practice lanes with buffers available to help them boost their confidence and skill.
Sun-Wed Dhs10 per person per game from 10am-4pm; Dhs15 from 4pm-midnight; Thu-Sat Dhs20. Open Sat-Thu 10am-midnight, Fri 10am-1am. Ongoing. Festival Centre, Dubai Festival City, www.dubaifestivalcity.com (04 232 8600).
