Wednesday 4

Head to Dubai Sports World
The region’s biggest indoor sports event is the place to be if your nippers need to run off some energy. Continuing until the end of August, kids aged five and up can get involved in sporting shenanigans from skateboarding and basketball to beach soccer and tennis. Entry is free, and you pay for individual activities once inside.
Prices vary. Open daily 8am-midnight. Until August 31. Dubai World Trade Centre, www.dubaisportsworld.ae (04 306 4000).

Thursday 5

The Amazing Spider-Man premieres today
Head to your nearest cinema, stock up on popcorn and enjoy the latest Marvel superhero instalment. This film, unlike the previous three, is a reboot (ie it tells a new story), looking back into Peter Parker’s past. It’s packed full of the usual action too, so is ideal for kids aged eight and above.
At cinemas across Dubai from today.

Friday 6

Cool off with movies in the pool at Cine-Splash
Watch a movie from the pool at Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club. Tonight’s line-up is Pinocchio at 7pm, followed by Cats and Dogs at 9pm. Food stations serving hot dogs, popcorn and the like are also on hand to feed hungry film buffs.
Dhs25-40 per person. Thu-Fri 7pm-11pm. Ongoing. Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club, Arabian Ranches, www.dubaipoloclub.com (04 361 8111).

Stake out some dinosaurs at Dino Live
Little paleontologists will love this animatronic exhibition of lifelike dinosaurs. Hear the T-Rex roar and watch out for the swishing tail of the Diplodocus. There’s even a dinosaur ride.
Dhs50 per person; free for kids under three. Daily 10am-10pm. Ongoing. Dubai Festival City, www.dino-live.com (055 949 5787).

Saturday 7

Organic Foods & Café brunch
With Ramadan around the corner, make sure you make the most of the city’s famous brunches. We like Organic Foods & Café’s Friday feast, where all the hearty fair is organic, and there’s a children’s area so little nippers can play. The dessert station is definitely worth a visit – we particularly rate the fresh berries and baked cheesecake.
Dhs95 (adults), Dhs65 (kids aged six to 12), free for kids under six. Sat 11am-3pm. Ongoing. Organic Foods & Café, The Dubai Mall (04 434 0577).

Enjoy a workshop at Little Explorers

Take the little tykes to Little Explorers at any time of the day and book them in for an educational workshop. The 90-minute sessions include educational or crafty classroom time, plus a tour of the centre by Little Explorers’ helpers, who are all either trained teachers or are fully qualified to work with children. The workshops are aimed at kids aged four to seven, and include themes such as ‘body and senses’, ‘animals’ and ‘science and discoveries’.
Dhs90 per child per workshop. Sun-Thu 10am-10pm; Fri-Sat 10am-midnight. Ongoing. Mirdif City Centre, www.theplaymania.com/little-explorers (800 836).

Sunday 8

Go mad at Modhesh World
This year, the little yellow fellow has moved from his usual haunt at Dubai Airport Expo to Dubai World Trade Centre. There are heaps of activities, including funfair rides and games for kids of all ages, as well as playgrounds, soft toy areas, the latest video games and a 4D cinema. It’s all indoors and is fully air conditioned, so your kids can run around the huge venue without getting heatstroke.
