Known for it’s juicy burgers that have followed the same recipe since the company began back in 1952, Fatburger on Jumeirah Beach Road (www.fatburgeruae.com, 04 394 5296) is one of Dubai’s fave fast food joints. Tuck into a Fatdeal (original Fatburger, fries and drink, Dhs37), while their kids’ meals (Dhs20 each) come with a choice of burger, chicken nuggets or hot dog, a drink and fries cooked in cholesterol-free oil, plus there’s a free surprise gift, too. And to burn off some of the stodge, they’ve got a huge jungle gym at the back of the venue, which is free of charge for kids who’ve dined in the restaurant.

Always a cheap and cheerful option for playdates, regular tickets for a movie at Vox Cinemas cost Dhs35 each (Mall of the Emirates, Deira City Centre, Mirdif City Centre, www.voxcinemas.com). However, if you purchase them using an Emirates NBD go4it card, they have a special offer of two tickets for Dhs40. Which means you have plenty left to buy some popcorn to munch through (Dhs12 each). Afterwards, walk across the street to Jumeirah Beach Park (Jumeirah Beach Road, 04 349 2555), where entry costs just Dhs5 per person. As well as the clean sandy shores to splash around on, there’s plenty of leafy walkways and kids’ play areas to stay out of direct sunlight.
