Wednesday 8
Enjoy a workshop or two at Little Explorers

Take the little tykes to Little Explorers at any time of the day and book them in for an educational and fun workshop run by experts at the centre. The 90-minute sessions include some educational or crafty classroom time and a tour of the centre by Little Explorer’s helpers, who are all either trained teachers or are fully qualified to work with children. The workshops, which run all day, are organised for children aged four to seven and include themes such as ‘body and senses’, ‘animals’ and ‘science and discoveries’.
Dhs90 (per child, per workshop). 10am-10pm on weekdays. 10am-midnight on weekends. www.theplaymania.com (800 386).

Thursday 9
The Great Ghost Rescue

Head to the cinema this Thursday with the family in tow for the premiere of this hilarious kiddie ghost flick. Humphrey is a ghost with a big problem. He and his family, the Craggyfords, have been ousted from their home and left without a place to haunt. As they search for new haunting grounds they soon discover that they are not alone. Humphrey digs deep inside and decides to help save his family and the rest of the haunting community by scaring his way to victory.

Friday 10
Check out the mirror maze at Dubai Dolphinarium

Head to the brand new mirror maze at Dubai Dolphinarium – the 10,000 square foot reflective glass is bewildering. So, if you do really fancy losing the kids for a couple of hours, here’s your chance, but be warned, the Dolphinarium team haven’t yet taken on a search and rescue team, so the nippers could be stuck in there for a while.
Prices TBA. Open Mon-Sat, 10am-7.30pm. www.dubaidolphinarium.ae (04 336 9773).

Al Tamimi Stables
Families can enjoy a fur-tastic day out at this vast farm and stables. It’s home to more than 500 animals, including plenty of horses. Little ones may get used to these large creatures in serene surroundings. Kids can enjoy a pony ride for Dhs20, which consists of four rounds of the paddock. The ponies are so gentle, mum and dad can lead if they like.
Dhs35 (adults); Dhs25 (kids aged six to 12); free for kids under five. Open Sat-Thu 9am-6pm. Al Tamimi Stables, on the E311 road just past Sharjah Airport, www.tamimistables.com (06 743 1122).

Saturday 11
Painting in the Park

Budding artists can unleash their creativity today when The Jamjar and The Archive in Safa Park join forces for an afternoon of creative fun. Grab a brush and a canvas (cake and coffee, too, if you fancy it) and enjoy an al fresco painting session from 4pm-8pm. All the paints and brushes are provided (and the canvas of course). Pay by the hour – Dhs60 per person, depending on the size of your artwork. This is a great family activity for those who want to enjoy some creative and peaceful bonding time together.

Pony up to the polo club for a guided tour
Horsey families can spend the morning taking a two-hour guided tour of the stables at Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club. The tour gives kids the chance to meet plenty of equine friends, as well as learning how they’re looked after. Afterwards, head to Epona Café for a slap-up breakfast.
Dhs195 (adults), Dhs100 (kids aged four to 12). Sat-Thu 8am-10am. Ongoing. Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club, Arabian Ranches, www.dubaipoloclub.com (04 361 8111).

Sunday 12
Toddlers on ice

Dubai Ice Rink at The Dubai Mall is offering a special session for tots under 100cm tall, which includes ice time, skate hire and the purchase of the all-important crash helmet for Dhs55. That means your little munchkins will get two hours of ice time (enough to wear them out) and they’ll be able to keep the helmet for their next trip to the rink. Helmets cost Dhs40 when purchased separately.
Dhs55 per child (includes skate hire and helmet). Open daily 10am-10pm. Dubai Ice Rink, The Dubai Mall, www.dubaiicerink.com (04 448 5111).

Monday 13
Evening family barbecue at Nomad

Head to Nomad and enjoy a family-style grill-it-yourself experience at one of the barbecue tables. Indulge in everything from vegetable skewers to tenderloin kebabs – kids will love the fact that they can cook their own grub from the à la carte menu.
Daily 6pm-11.30pm. Nomad, Jumeirah Creekside Hotel, Garhoud, www.jumeirah.com (04 230 8571).

Tuesday 14
Fun at Fun City, Lamcy Plaza

Take the little monsters for a session at Lamcy Plaza’s Fun City – a multi-faceted edutainment centre with water play, sand play, a jungle gym, soft play, a mini supermarket, little ones library and free tot cooking classes every hour. For Dhs40 a pop at the door and no additional costs, it’s brilliant value for parents who want their kids entertained all afternoon. Suitable for children aged two to ten. And there’s a sanity saving café so you can sit down and relax too.
Dhs40 (for all day play on weekdays only) Open 10am-10.30pm. Ongoing. www.funcity.ae (04 335 2700).
