Family life in Silicon Oasis, Dubai
The Rourke family share their views on family living in Silicon Oasis
How long have you been living in Dubai?
We have been in Dubai for just over five years now after moving here from the UK.
Why do you think Dubai is good for families?
We think Dubai has great opportunities for kids. When the twins get a little older, they can to do lots of sports activities, find hobbies and mix with kids from around the world. We feel Dubai is a very family-oriented place.
How long have you lived in Silicon Oasis?
My husband and I have lived in Silicon Oasis for two years now, having previously been in an apartment in Al Barsha.
Why did you choose this neighbourhood?
We chose this area as it was very family-friendly with all the facilities we need.
Did you have your kids in Dubai? How was the experience?
Yes, we had our twins in Dubai. We had a very good experience with excellent doctors and surgeons. We couldn’t fault the birthing experience here.
Have you found it easy to meet other mums here?
Yes, there’s quite a number of mums nearby and many that had their babies at the same time as we had our twins.
What family-friendly activities are nearby where you live?
Family-friendly activities nearby include swimming, and when they are older, there is a cycle route, tennis court and soft play.
Are you planning to stay put in Silicon Oasis area?
Yes, we are planning to stay put!.
What do you do in your free time away from the kids?
We haven’t been able to be away from our kids yet as they are still so young, but we do enjoy going out for dinner when we can!
Mother-child activity in Dubai
My favourite mother-child activity at the moment is swimming. It is too hot to be outside at the moment, so being immersed in water is great. The twins enjoy being in the water and so do I!
Family hang-outs in Dubai
At the moment, we love going to The Dubai Mall. It’s nice to get out the house with the babies and be able to push them in their pram as it’s just too hot to take them outside for a walk, and we can have a nice coffee at the same time!
Our favourite destination is America. We love it because we like to do a few days in a city and then get out into the countryside to visit the national parks like Zion and the Grand Canyon. We usually hire an RV so that we can travel around and see as much as we can.
