4 ways to save money during pregnancy
We spoke to Mama’s Box for four clever ways to save right from the beginning of your pregnancy
1 The extenders
As you tummy grows and you start to outgrow your old clothes it can be tempting to buy new trousers from your fourth or fifth month of pregnancy. By your seventh month these trousers will probably no longer fit and you’ll need to go out and buy yet another round of maternity clothes. Instead, try extending the time you wear your old trousers a little longer by using the Belly Belt! A clever little invention used to extend your trousers, shorts, and skirts. Also great to use post-delivery when you’re trying to fit into your old pants a little faster and may feel the need to go out and buy yet another round of new clothes. Bra extenders also work great in helping you save when it comes to keeping up with the constant change in bust size!
Both items are available through www.mamas-box.com and www.Mumzworld.com.
2 Limit the quantity
After months of research on which baby bottle brand is best – it may be tempting to go out and buy 10 to try! I would suggest taking it easy and buying only one or two to start with. It is very likely that your baby has a different opinion about that specific brand, or may not like the bottle altogether. The same applies to pacifiers, diapers and all those other baby essentials.
3 Go for multipurpose
In preparation for your baby, try to purchase items that have multiple purposes. So instead of buying a breastfeeding cover, a swaddle and a pram cover separately buy one large soft muslin, which can be used for all these purposes! I love the Duck Duck Goose Giant Muslin available on www.eggsnsoldiers.com. The same applies to the body pillow - buy one which can also be used as a breastfeeding pillow later, or a support pillow for your baby when she or he is tiny.
4 Slow down on the baby clothes shopping
It may be tempting to stock up on clothes for your baby before he/she is even born. Just remember, babies outgrow their clothes in a matter of weeks, especially in the first few months! Plus, if you haven’t opted to go for a baby gift registry – you are very likely to receive A LOT of baby clothes as gifts (and probably be feeling a little too heavy to go out and exchange them all).
