Trawl the new malls

A raft of shopping hotspots have opened in the city. Here’s where to splash your cash.

Is The Dubai Mall too far to trek out to on the weekends? Is the Mall of the Emirates’ carpark a thing of nightmares? Fear not, because numerous new shopping malls have been popping up close to many humble neighbourhoods. Malls that have been carefully planned out to be very shopper-friendly, with lots of restaurants, kid’s activities and to entice even the savviest bargain hunter.

Dubai has long been revered as the shopping capital of this region, with movie stars, celebrities and holiday-makers flocking here in droves to enjoy splashing cash and flexing plastic. With the wholesale and retail market accounting for 29 percent of the UAE’s GDP, it continues to invest in the region, increasing the portfolio of shopping malls and developments to service the needs of both tourists and residents. Now, with new developments springing up all over the place, it can be difficult to know where to make the journey to. The Outlet Village
A Jebel Ali/Tuscany mash-up, The Outlet Village boasts exposed brickwork, piazza-like squares, water features and more than 100 retail brands, selling discounted designer labels, all on one level and under the same glass roof. City Centre Me’aisem
This mall boasts a Carrefour, plenty of food options and larger than usual Borders and H&M stores.

My City Centre, Al Barsha
Located in Barsha South, this mall caters well for busy mums in search of a bargain, particularly with the Carrefour Express and Dollar Plus budget store.

The Mall, Jumeirah
An Art Deco-style venue with a nice mixture of food, fashion and beauty brands. There are 62 retail units, plus a food court and lots of parking spaces. Result!
