If your visits to Palm Jumeirah are limited to a waterpark, it’s time to explore further. Revo Café at Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort has a new kids’ menu and all the ingredients for breezy breakfasts and lazy lunchtimes.

Situated near the main entrance of the hotel, its light ambience, complete with mismatched tables, bright red chairs and an open kitchen, lends a relaxed and beachy feel.

We sit by the window where the air conditioning allows us to enjoy watching palm fronds gently sway in the breeze, while remaining comfortably cool.

The café vibe is enhanced by a large chalkboard sign on the walls which proclaims, “Retirement is the world’s longest coffee break”. We can’t help but agree as we peruse the international menu.

The kids debate between tomato soup, mini burgers or waffles with Nutella. It was never a fair contest, and the freshly cooked waffles arrive on oblong plates, generously accompanied by sliced banana, succulent strawberries and four little dollops of Nutella.

As they dig in, we try our bean and turkey bacon soup, which is light enough for the warm weather and comes with a crunchy sprinkling of croutons, too.

We follow with a Philly cheese steak that is a meaty mixture of tender steak, bite-sized mushrooms and melted cheese, with a side salad of lettuce leaves, shredded carrot and chips.

A portion of fish and chips consists of two pieces of deep-fried haddock and a little pot of minted mushy peas. We’re not big fans of the chips, but the haddock, although small, is tasty and a big hit.

Despite being busy with hotel guests, you’re unlikely to feel rushed, so bring along some colouring books and stop around for a coffee before heading off.
