Preparing for the initial stages of motherhood, or getting back on track right after giving birth, can be difficult.

Pilates classes, which are known to help posture, develop upper and lower body strength and stability, and boost energy levels in the body, can be one of the best ways to keep active during the physically and mentally transformational experience.

“Attitudes and beliefs about prenatal exercises have drastically changed over the past 20 years. Regular exercise during pregnancy can improve heart health and stamina, as well as overall health,” says Michelle Scott, lead instructor trainer at Real Pilates.

As the baby starts to grow, the body begins to expand and create room, which gradually affects posture. Pilates helps with easing discomfort due to muscle and skeletal imbalances during this process.

By focusing on strengthening and stabilising muscles during pregnancy, you overcome post-delivery postural issues with ease.

Activities such as bending over, lifting and pushing a stroller will require strong muscles in the arms and lower back, which prenatal Pilates classes will help build.

The 55-minute prenatal sessions available on the mat and reformer are specially designed to develop strength and endurance while supporting your changing body during pregnancy.

These classes can help with keeping the body strong and energy levels high, while enhancing muscle tone and alleviating tension around the hips and back.
