Flooka review

A little pocket of calm with some fine seafood

In a city as hectic and full-on as Abu Dhabi, we all need an oasis of calm from time to time. There are few better ways of doing that than reconnecting with nature. Throw in some amazing food, a gorgeous outdoor terrace and stunning views and you’ve got yourself a winning combination for a special family meal.

This is why we love the Eastern Mangroves so much – it oozes chill but has fine restaurants, fancy hotels and fun activities. And we implore you to try Middle Eastern seafood eatery Flooka. Grab a seat outside, where the only hustle and bustle comes from the passing kayakers.

We’re impressed by a generous serving of fattoush. The rakakat, little filo pastry parcels of cheese, go down a treat, too.

We wrestle with whether ordering fish and chips is the best choice at a fancy venue, but we’re after simple fare so go for it.

A slightly smaller-than-expected portion comes, but the fish is delicious and the batter just the right amount of stodgy. We also try the fillet of the day – kingfish on this occasion.

It’s outstanding and we can’t fault the service at this restaurant, either.

Is it too obvious to say Flooka is our catch of the day?
Open daily noon to midnight. Licensed. Eastern Mangroves Promenade, Al Salam Street(02 441 8244).

The bottom line
A waterside spot that’s naturally a winner.
