I have been in Dubai for 2 years. And I see sale 50% 75% buy 1 get 1 free most of the time.
Make-a-Fool Strategy #1
As mentioned by some of the people here...the shops are all out to make a fool of you. Visit a shop 15 days before DSF thing costs 100Dhs, visit a shop during DSF thing costs 400 and then you get discount of 75% end result you get the same thing for 100Dhs.!!!
Make-a-Fool Strategy #2
Closing down sales. I see shops which have posters that they are closing down and selling distress since last 2 years!!!

River Island up to 75%
Boots were 700 before - they now show 800 and sell for 675.
Sharaf DG -The HTC touch dual is down from Dhs2499 to Dhs999
They dont have one at all. OR they only had 1 and they sold it.
I was hoping for a deal on PS3 - nothing the same thing as before apart form DSF stickers all over the place.
Shops in MOE had sales on items they only had 1 or 2 more left, the things you would be sellng out anyway. Oakley had few things to offer, nothing big though. Every other shop I went into just faked original prices and offered 25%or so discount which in truth is 10% if even that. (something like River Island did in the example above and this is not only them). Dont know about H&M though or Marks n spencer.

I have just visited the Salam Department Store in Wafi for the first time(what a great store I didnt know Wafi had a luxury department store) and the range of designer stuff on discount was extensive. I noted your guide only mentions 25% off, however I found bargins from 35-60% off for myself (fashion, shoes AND BAGS!!!) and the kids. Happy shopping.

Yes, i agree that all this is mostly a huge marketing campaign and what they are trying to do is persuade you that all the items are on sale. They are actually not!! I have the same story with shoes: I wanted to get shoes from MOE and they were 550 before the sale, I came to have a look at them and they were 500 and the label said that their previous price was 750. So thses guys will end up loosing only 50 Dhs after selling them, what kind of discount is that, 10% ??? And they are claiming that it's all 40, that's cheating!!!

Anne's feedback is very insightful even though it's shocking. I am a regular shopper and I am glad to know of such marketing tricks that I could easily all for, not just during the sale season but in general.

Hi Anne, thanks for your comment. We spoke to Sharaf on Thursday and the Touch Dual offer was one of the ones they specifically mentioned to us, perhaps they have sold out? I will try and find out for you. Good to hear your other comments too, thanks for getting in touch.

Sharaf doesn't have Touch Dual on stock at all ! I went to the MOE yesterday and i was amazed - tags on all the items had wrong previous prices on them! Example: i looked at the pair of shoes a few weeks a go, and they were dhs 675. Yesterday there was a tag on them - Was: 800 dhs; Now: 600 dhs. Ridiculous! There are no sales here, ti's just a big marketing campaign!

Hi, thanks for your comment. The department stores listed are offering savings on everything, not just fashion. But we want to know what great sales you have seen. We will find out about as many other sales as we can for you and keep you updated. There are some great deals to be had in Virgin and Borders on books and CDs to get you started....good luck!

Fashion savings look good. But there should be more savings on other types of shops.
