The Gold Coast is one of Australia’s hidden gems, yet it’s often overshadowed by its southern cousin Sydney. Not any more. We headed for Brisbane to investigate.

It’s an over-used phrase, but there really is something for everyone in this Australian spot. Surfing beaches, peaceful rainforests, adventurous nightlife and a wide variety of tourist attractions for the young, old, and everyone in between.

Where to stay

There is accommodation available for every budget but most hotels tend to be in the three or four-star range.

If you’re looking for something a bit more swanky, try out the Q1 Resort and spa at www.q1.com.au/home.html or even Club Watermark at www.clubwatermark.com.au

If you’re more of a bargain-hunter, there are cheaper options, such as Islander Resort Hotel or the Paradise Towers. Take note however that the longer you plan to stay the cheaper it will cost per night. So in order to get the best rates plan to stay for at least five days.

Where to eat

The Gold coast is renowned for its seafood, so provided you’re prepared to be a bit adventurous, with both your wallet and your stomach, you’ll find this town has plenty to offer.

Try Oskars or Palazzo Versace for posh nosh or one of the many seaside cafes or fish & chip shops if you’ve got a budget in mind.

Things to do

Try the Botanic Gardens for strolling, Queen Street Mall for shopping, and Fortitude Valley for nightlife. Log onto www.ourbrisbane.com for the most up to date information on what’s going on during the time you visit.
