Looking for somewhere to trade your BlackBerry for money? We know just the place…
Time Out Dubai staff
Little did we know that the week we launched our mobile recycling campaign with The Green Foundation, a UAE ban on BlackBerries for security reasons would be announced.
Firstly, let us assure you that we don’t have friends high up in local telecoms. However, we did see a sudden rush in donations: within 12 hours of the news we had received 37 BlackBerrys and two large corporations had been in touch to discuss the recycling of those of hundreds of their staff.
Two obvious conclusions come from this: Apple must be rubbing their iHands in glee – and if you are looking to free yourself of your BlackBerry, take it down to any Choithrams and exchange it for cash (approximately Dhs90 for an old model; Dhs600 for the new ones). They’ll then be reused in developing markets such as Africa and Asia. Who knows, you might be able to hold a decent conversation face to face rather than via your thumbs, too.
