Spaniard Dany Torres produced a series of jaw-dropping flips and tricks to lift the trophy after an amazing final head-to-head against Norwegian Andre Villa that left the crowd on the edge of their seats.
6ft 2in Villa saw off fan favourite Blake Williams of Australia with a smooth set peppered with 360s before beginning his final showdown with one jump that produced the biggest oooh of the night from the crowd. Villa took off into the night sky and let go of his bike in midair for a full second, seemingly putting his life in danger, before pulling back the machine and coolly touching down on the sand with both wheels.
But after booking his place in the final by sweeping aside third-placed two-time X-Fighters tour champion Nate Adams , Torres showed why good things come in smaller packages with a death-defying show that lifted the watching thousands from their chairs.
The diminutive rider fully deserved the judges’ praise for a sensational set that edged his Spain-based opponent’s show for its variety of tricks.
Torres said: "I'm very happy to take the first win of the season here in Dubai.
"It feels really good because the level of riding was so high tonight, so it makes this win that much better."
