However despite the years of negotiation it took to strike a deal for Jay-Z’s November 1 gig – money apparently wasn’t the sticking point.
‘It’s not about the cheque book,’ insists Fairburn. ‘Artists wants to come to Abu Dhabi because they get the best crowds, and they’re well looked after.’
In spite of the hard work it took to put together the line-up for this year’s Yasalam After-Race concerts – which also features Muse and Depeche Mode on November 1 and 2 – there’s little rest in sight. Fairburn said artists were already being signed for next year’s event.
In the meantime, there’s more to look forward to this year, with the line up for the Grand Prix’s Beats on the Beach concerts expected to be announced in early September.
