’90s alt-rockers confirmed to open Dubai Jazz Festival
Veteran alternative rockers Stone Temple Pilots are to headline the opening night of next year’s Dubai Jazz Festival.
Performing at Dubai Festival City on Thursday February 13, fans of the ’90s grunge mongers will have the opportunity to witness a new incarnation of the band – with Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington now on lead vocals.
Bennington took over vocal duties earlier this year after iconic founding frontman Scott Weiland was fired in February. The new line-up released an EP, High Rise, under the moniker Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington in October.
The band are the fifth headline act to be confirmed for the festival, with the pop-friendly Olly Murs and The Wanted to perform on Valentine’s Day, while a smoother line-up of Jamie Cullum and Colbie Caillat have been confirmed for Thursday February 20.
The closing night headliner is expected to be announced next week.
‘By popular demand, the alternative classic rock band Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington will headline the opening night. Just like the Dubai Jazz Festival, the band is upholding their legacy while keeping up with the new age,’ said Anthony Younes, co-founder and CEO of Chillout Productions, the promoters behind the festival.
