Mall trawling could be a thing of the past with new techno gizmo
Time Out Dubai staff
This week: Get big deals on shopping via a new app, plus MoE phase 1 is now open.
Mall-trawling in this city could soon be a thing of the past, if a new Dubai-based marketing company has anything to do with it. Pitted as the Middle East’s first virtual mall, the company has just the app known as SAMY (itunes.apple.com), which basically functions as ‘a mall in your pocket’. The smartphone app enables retailers to extend offers, promotions and discounts of up to 90 percent to their existing companies via your mobile device.
Meanwhile, phase one of the squeaky new 5,000sqm shopping area at Mall of the Emirates (04 409 9000) has just been unveiled, with a handful of boutiques now open. Fashion District is home to 30 boutiques, including Alexander McQueen’s contemporary spin-off line McQ, Halston Heritage, NYC-based Alice & Olivia, Maje, Elie Tahari, Sandro and C Wonder. We’re a little bit excited.
Lastly, Dubai-based label Glam On You (04 385 5486) has teamed up with regional charity organisation Breathing Numbers to produce a beautiful collection of T-shirts and hand-made dolls to support Syrian refugees in a camp in Jordan. All proceeds are donated to the cause.
