This week: Feel-good fashion, free street theatre in Deira plus a new catwalk show.
Dubai-based feel-good fashion label Palestyle (www.palestyle.com), a local initiative that creates embroidery job opportunities for refugee women, has been certified as the first social business in the Middle East. The accolade was given to the label after it was deemed to have made a social impact on the region. Check out the new spring/summer collection, which includes a range of Arabic-inspired part-embroidered handbags available to buy in Bloomingdale’s (04 350 5333).
Meanwhile, those who’ve never been down to check out Al Ghurair Centre (www.alghuraircentre.com) in Deira should head there for 5pm on weekdays and 1pm on weekends to see free street theatre entertainment. Running daily until April, you can see four artists including an illusionist and fire-eater, a tightrope walker, a one-man band and a Charlie Chaplin impersonator.
Lastly, JW Marriott Marquis is hosting a two-day fashion show in collaboration with Dubai-based marketing firm Babylon in late March. The show will be open to the public and features Lebanese, Italian, Serbian and local designers.
