The Lemon Jam kicks off this weekend with a stellar line-up of homegrown and international music. Headlining is Bahrain’s The Belly of Paris, fronted by Daniel Cochran from the North East of England.
The band started a as a solo project for singer and organ player Cochran after he moved to the island from the UK, where he was a member of ‘baroque and roll’ band By Toutatis.
Before long he was collaborating with some likeminded musicians and the band expanded to a six-piece – with each member from a different country.
Described by Cochran himself as “the sound of a very old, very rich aristocrat slowly wasting away in a crumbling mansion”, the band have released tracks There Was No Snake and The Sockburn Wyrm on Soundcloud with plans for an album in the pipeline.
You can hear them live on Saturday when The Belly of Paris play at The Lemon Jam with support coming from DJ sets by Flamingods (highly commended in this year’s Time Out Nightlife Awards) and Dan Greenpeace who will be playing a reggae set. Free. Sat from 2pm. Pool area, JW Marriott Marquis, Business Bay, (04 430 8381)
