“The Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens is not just about the rugby, although of course that is the centrepiece of this iconic event,” Gary Chapman, president of group services and dnata at Emirates Group said in a statement.
He added that the decision to put netball on the agenda was largely due to wanting the Dubai Rugby Sevens to reach a more significant audience size, reports 7Days.
“This event is significant in that it showcases Dubai, and brings the city together like no other event on the sporting calendar,” he continued. “The addition of the netball tournament will increase the appeal and reach of the event even further.”
16 teams will compete for the netball prize as part of the occasion which invites approximately 3,000 players to get active across 250 squads.
In its 46th year, there is the HSBC Sevens World Series and Women’s Seven Series as well as the Invitation Tournament which has more than 220 teams – local, women, veterans, juniors and under 18s females.
“We are pleased to announce the inclusion of the netball tournament which we believe is an important step in providing even more opportunities for involvement in this event, Chapman went on.
Invitation Tournament Manager Jill Conlon shared that the fresh outlook on the games was predicted to make more popular than even.
“We anticipate that the netball tournament will also be extremely popular, both locally and internationally,” she said.
