How long before Dubai does something like this Jaws screening from a lake?
Jaws the movie turned 40 this year and so what better way to celebrate than in extravagant fashion?
In the United States this past weekend, film fans viewed the epic shark story by sitting in… wait for it – rubber tubes in the middle of a lake.
The quirky event took place in Austin, at a place called Texas Ski Ranch. People donned their bathing suits and were kept watered with a swim-up bar in the manmade lake. People munched on fish tacos during the Jaws On The Water gathering and presumably tried not to get too freaked out at the risk of being pranked by a fellow screening-goer.
We reckon there are plenty of places we could do something like this in Dubai when the weather’s just right for an evening dip. Here's our top three:
1) Rixos The Palm With the new Sea Breacher now in action right at the end of the Palm, this would be the ultimate spot to stage a scary movie night. The water vehicle is dubbed by the resort as the ‘sports car of the ocean’, this crazy piece of marine transportation is actually a shark-shaped two-seater fully submersible watercraft.
'We would certainly consider doing something like this at Rixos The Palm and the Jaws idea is amazing - especially given that we have the Seabreacher (a robo-shark) and a cinema screen on the beach. We have a number of exciting 'first-of-it's-kind' experiences coming up and this sort of thing would certainly be a novel addition,' a representative told us.
2) Media City Amphitheatre We’ve seen many a concert staged at this venue with Blended Festival, Ed Sheeran and Dubai Jazz Festival recently. Just behind the green grass music lovers stomp and sprawl on for some of the biggest gigs in Dubai is a serene stretch of water. We think it makes a super location for kicking back for night of cinema.
3) Aquaventure at Atlantis The Palm If you’re not so sure about braving the beach, how about a water park? Offering thrills and spills for kids big and small with its selection of water slides and rides, there’s even a stretch of beach for parents at Aquaventure to relax on when the going gets a bit much. So why not bring the Jaws party there at night?
Unfortunately, a spokesperson at Atlantis The Palm revealed that the logistics probably wouldn’t work out for them.
‘Whilst we love the fun nature of this perilous cinema concept, the marine life in our Ambassador Lagoon would be deeply offended by the monstrous and evil representation of sharks in the film, therefore to ensure harmony within our lagoon and to protect the reputation of our friendly sharks we would have to politely decline,’ a spokesperson told TimeOutDubai.com.
