With nights such as Secret Circle on a Monday, Covert Events MCR with Dale Howard on Thursday and De•Con•Struct with Manuel Tur & Raxon on Fridays, there was plenty going on at The Basement.
It comes as the venue was sold this week and it’s thought that nights there including Secret Circle and Shibuya will reappear elsewhere at a later date.
It was only last month that Societe Jumeirah shut down after opening in the fourth quarter of 2014.
The Dubai club which specialises in playing 80s, 90s and 00s popular music will now focus their energy into the Marina branch.
The reason for Societe Jumeriah calling it quits has not been revealed, however, Gary Holliday, Director of Societe, confirmed the news to Time Out Dubai.
‘Team Societe received an offer they could not refuse and have made the decision to sell the Jumeirah branch of the club,’ he told us exclusively. ‘We had a fun time rocking out in Old School Dubai, but are ready now to focus on new ventures for the brand.
‘Societe Marina continues to play music for the people and some exciting developments will be making their way to you in the new season!’
Societe Jumeriah was nominated for Best New Club at the Time Out Dubai Music & Nightlife Awards in 2015 but lost out to Zero Gravity.
UPDATE: July 27
Marko Smokingroove announced on his Facebook page:'Very pleased and excited to announce that I have teamed up with the guys at Square Nightclub as Entertainment Manager & DJ. I reviewed many offers for a variation of venues, but chose Square as our musical policies alined perfectly... Finding a good venue to continue what I started at The Basement was essential first and for most.
'We can all agree the basement was something special and can never be re created, but we can continue the right ethos into a 'Good Nightclub' with music that matters. The team at Square are just as passionate about quality music as I am and have just installed a brand new Ruby Red Funktion One - Middle East sound system. This also means Shibuya has a brand new home for the season! I look forward to seeing you all on the dance floor.'
