Things to do on September 24:
A Scot in The Irish Village: Lanarkshire’s pride and joy, Scottish musician Midge Ure, takes centre stage at The Irish Village for one night only. You might remember him from bands such as Thin Lizzy or Ultravox, or as co-writer of the UK’s second highest selling single ever, Do They Know It’s Christmas? (yes, that old chestnut). For this performance, he’s rocking his own hit songs such as Cold, Cold Heart, If I Was and No Regrets. Dhs125. Doors open 7pm and show starts at 9pm. The Irish Village, Garhoud (04 239 5000).
Ian Pooley on the decks: The Shibuya Season II Launch Party is the place to be for all house music fans tonight, as prolific underground producer Ian Pooley performs live at Square. The German-born DJ has got himself a reputation for spinning great house tracks with Brazilian influence over his 22-year career. Free for ladies before midnight, Dhs100 after, free for gents before 10pm, Dhs100 after. 10pm-3am. Square, JW Marriott Marquis Dubai, Business Bay (050 152 9241).
Indian flavours at Zafran: Your aromatic three-course meal at this Indian eatery includes lentil soup and a kebab, followed by a choice of flavourful curries with dal tadka, naan or steamed rice. Finish off with some sweet, sticky gulab jamun. Dhs79 (vegetarian), Dhs89 (non-vegetarian). Daily noon-4pm. Mirdif City Centre (04 284 0987). Other location: Dubai Marina Mall (04 399 7357).
Miu miu’s first fragrance: Smell fresh this weekend with the high fashion brand’s recently released, first-ever fragrance. Sensual floral notes and earthy undertones of wood, pepper and patchouli are inspired by Prada, as perfumier Daniela Andrier played with contrasts to create a soft scent. Dhs480 (100ml). Available at Wojooh, Paris Gallery, Sephora, Debenhams and Vavavoom.
Ellie Goulding returns to dubai: The English singer-songwriter, who has sold more than six million albums across the world and performed at Sandance NYE at Atlantis The Palm in 2012, promises a powerful performance at Dubai Music Week tonight. Since her first studio album Lights hit number one on the UK Albums Chart in 2010, she’s stolen fans’ hearts with her sultry soprano tones and will undoubtedly do so again in Dubai. From Dhs295. 6.30pm. Dubai World Trade Centre, Sheikh Zayed Road, www.dubaimusicweek.ae.
