The Irish Village
What would St Patrick’s Day be without The Irish Village, eh? Aside from a bit quieter, of course. Bob Geldof is making his annual St Paddy’s visit, with Aussie band Frequent People in support. But this year he’s not coming out until Friday 19, which means The IV is kicking things off on Wednesday 17 with a free gig by Dubai’s own Maplejacks and DJ Marky Mark, plus a troupe of Irish dancers. They’ll be returning (minus the dancers) on Thursday 18, and on Saturday 20 there’ll be a kids’ day with bouncy castles and face painting. Bless. There’s also an Irish buffet for Dhs85.

DJ Chunky G heads up a night of drinks deals and giveaways on Wednesday 17, with pop classics and hits from the ’70s to the present day, plus popular Irish tunes. Thursday 18 features DJs Dave Cleary and Andi playing hits for the accompanying ladies’ night. They’ll then step back into the breach to play at the Irish brunch the following day. And if you’re looking for a sporting fix, Saturday 20 will feature the Ireland
vs Scotland Six Nations rugby match, as well as other rugby events.

Le Méridien Village’s Irish pub is also offering live entertainment in the form of Blasta, a traditional Irish band – they’ve got an accordion and everything – who’ll be rattling through the Gaelic classics on the nights of Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18. They’re also playing at the brunch on Friday 19.
Le Méridien Village (04 282 4040), March 17-19, free
Not to be outdone, Double Decker will have house band Face Off doing their thing (with a few Pogues tunes thrown in, we’re sure) on Wednesday 17. But they’re raising the stakes by including a ladies’ night deal – all Irish (and non-Irish, of course) lasses will get two free drinks from 8pm ’til midnight.
Al Murooj Rotana (04 321 1111), March 17, free
The Pub is offering Irish dishes such as steak and ale pie and, er, chilli and coconut soup (really? We must have slept through that bit in The Commitments) as well as cocktails made from Irish drinks.
Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek, March 12-17, free
