Good grief – with three (and now four) appearances in just over a year, it seems we just can’t get rid of DJ Yoda. Not that we really want to, hence his nomination for best international DJ set at the Time Out Dubai Nightlife Awards the other week. If you’ve seen his earlier sets, you’ll know what to expect: thick, tasty chunks of every musical genre chopped up into an eclectic mashup set. His last big gig at Chi was an elaborate VJ set that involved mixing video clips and samples together, which is very clever but a complete dancefloor killer. Thankfully this time around he’s doing a more traditional – or as traditional as his sets get – audio-only mix.
Also on the bill is Trevor Nelson, BBC Radio 1’s R&B, hip hop and soul expert, who’s flying out here for the first time in years to join Yoda in the club. With years as a Pacha DJ under his belt and multiple Mobo awards to his name, he should be more than ready to please the crowds.
