We think 2010 is going to be a very good year for music in Dubai. Not only has the city welcomed a cavalcade of quality (if slightly aged) acts in the past month, but newcomers are continuing to invest in the scene with brand new festivals.
Take Desert Fusion, for example, which is being headlined by Pakistani megastar Atif Aslam. Atif, if you don’t know, is a rock musician whose records sell in the hundreds of thousands worldwide, and who is currently filming his acting debut. That’s a bit of a coup for a first-time event organiser, we reckon. As well as a solo rock performance, Atif will also play world fusion tunes with other musicians.
Other artists playing on the night include Brigitte Yaghi, whose appearance on reality TV series Super Star (a Middle East offshoot of Pop Idol) made her an overnight sensation; Paris House Addict, a three-person DJ/violin/saxophone troupe; and DJ Zubair, who’ll be playing desi tunes. All in all, it seems like a pretty solid start for the event. Whether it’ll work, of course, is down to you.
