Nine DJs are coming together to perform at the first birthday of Nasimi’s Full Moon Party. James Wilkinson cuts himself some cake as he quizzes the DJs
It’s Full Moon Party’s first birthday! What would you wish for? Rone Jaxx: I’d wish for a lot more gigs like this, where you have so many talented DJs playing so many great genres under a clear sky and in perfect unity. Or a blue Lamborghini. Greg Stainer: That the summer doesn’t arrive and we can party on the beach all year. Dany Neville: That gatherings like this could happen more often.
What’s the worst birthday present you ever received? Schooly: A T-shirt with a friend’s face on it. Why would they do that? Greg Stainer: Before my 17th birthday, my mum and dad bought me a second-hand Ford Fiesta and parked it up the street from our house. On my birthday I was handed some keys and told to walk up the street to find my gift. When I arrived, I found a Ford Fiesta, smashed to pieces. It had been involved in a hit and run. Kristian Valdini: When a religious holiday shifted dates and swallowed up my 30th birthday.
What birthday present should we bring to the show? Charl Chaka: Bring your dancing shoes – you’re going to need them. Schooly: As long as there’s cake for everyone, then that’s great. Oh, actually I want a 30-foot-high jelly! We have the world’s highest building already, so it would be great to set a world record for the biggest jelly and ice cream. Kristian Valdini: A box of Cadbury’s chocolate animal biscuits and some party rings for the DJ booth, please.
Full moons are supposed to bring out the crazy. What’s the maddest thing you’ve ever done? Emtee Creepers: When I was 13 I jumped off the Statue of Liberty’s second-floor wall, down onto the first. I got in serious trouble, but was completely worth it. Kristian Valdini: About 10 years ago I was stranded at a friend’s villa high up in the hills of Ibiza. I managed to flag down a local hippy and persuaded him to drive me to a club called DC10 on the other side of the island. He agreed, but only if I could get him and his dog in on the guest list… that was the start of a very strange 24 hours.
What’s the best TV or film werewolf and why? Charl Chaka: Teen Wolf – that’s classic Michael J Fox. Rone Jaxx: It was a story in one of the Tales from the Crypt TV shows where this kid is being chased by vampires until a full moon comes out and he turns into a werewolf and eats them. David Craig: An American Werewolf in London: the effects were amazing at the time and it was directed by John Landis, the man responsible for the ‘Thriller’ video. Smokingroove: Don’t know, but it’s certainly not ’80s film Teen Wolf. That was just plain old rubbish.
Fulll Moon Party is at Nasimi, April 30, Dhs100, free before 5pm; ladies free 5pm-9pm, men Dhs50 5pm-9pm.
