For its second gig of the new season, club night Metal Asylum is mixing things up, departing from its usual line-up of Dubai-based bands in favour of some overseas talent, namely Freefall, from Kuwait, and Saudi Arabian band Sound of Ruby. The latter formed in Dammam in 1996, and have been playing an interesting amalgamation of grunge, indie, punk and blues since their very first gig in a foreign community centre way back in 1998. With songs such as the intriguingly named ‘Barbie’s Head or Someone’s’ under their belt, these guys will be bringing an undoubtedly individual feel to the night.
Though some 10 years younger, Freefall promise to be no less captivating than their Saudi stagemates. Two Kuwaitis, one Iranian and an American make up this rock group, whose sound is said to be influenced by everything from Arabic music to progressive rock, via country and metal.
Freefall and Sound of Ruby play Metal Asylum at Aussie Legends in Satwa on September 17
