Plus Minus sessions come back to Submarine so dust off your dancing shoes and let us tell you why you really must be there. You snooze, you lose.
It’s time for Darren Lewis to get nautical as he returns to Submarine for another of his regular sets at Plus Minus Sessions. James Wilkinson finds out what spins his records.
What kind of music do you play? I classify all the genres of music that I play – for example, tech house, minimal, techno – as electronic dance music.
How long have you been out here and what are your impressions of it? Well I’ll have been here for three years very soon and I must say it has been a fantastic experience – more and more now that I am playing regularly at Plus Minus Sessions. I have learnt a lot from different cultures and nationalities, so it gets more exciting each and every passing day. The Dubai clubbing scene is growing rapidly and I love having the opportunity to listen to great artists every week. I am proud to be part of it!
How did you get into DJing? Music and the clubbing scene has always been my passion. I was a teen in London when I first stepped behind the decks.
If you weren’t a DJ, what would you be? I would definitely be a soccer player, but unfortunately these two passions of mine don’t go hand-in-hand...
What track is guaranteed to get the crowd pumping, and why? ‘What the f***’ (Original club mix) by Funkagenda… just listen to it, bro!
How do you wind down the crowd at the end of the night? I always play a classic track – I just love the eye contact from the crowd as it takes them back.
If you could be resident DJ anywhere in the world where would you go? In summer it would be Ibiza, baby – I would play at Amnesia. And in winter I would play at ‘Watergate’ in Berlin.
Darren Lewis plays Kazeen Presents Plus Minus Sessions at Submarine on Thursday March 10, from 10pm-3am. Entry Dhs50, free for ladies.
