UK R&B singer helps beach club celebrate first birthday
Has it really been a year already? XL Beach Club, in many ways a baby brother in the pool bar scene, is reaching adolescence with this celebration of its first birthday. And despite the small, boutique size, that hasn’t stopped it from throwing a mighty big bash. Namely the venue is flying in Estelle, a singer with more awards than many people have friends. There’s the two Mobos, the UMA, the World Music Award, the O2 Silver Clef (huh?) – and let’s not forget the Grammy (Best Rap Collaboration for ‘American Boy’ in 2009). Or the Mercury Prize and Brit Award nominations. There’s no way they’ll fit a band on that tiny dancefloor, so we’re expecting DJ-led renditions of hits including ‘Free’ ‘Go Gone’ and ‘Break My Heart’.
