What makes this Dubai resident tick? We make it our mission to find out over coffee and a conversation with Aftab Mukadam.
Aftab Mukadam, 27, is a pro drummer, the assistant manager of Pursuit Games and – more importantly – boss of Dubai’s magical, musical Party Bus. Here’s what he gets up to when he’s out and about.
My favourite regular venue is... I’m not the kind of person who does hardcore clubbing so I tend to head to some place completely chilled out. My favorite venue has to be Buddha Bar – the music and food are great! To tell you the truth, I sometimes go there just so that I can order the chicken dumplings!
Where I go for... a big night out: If I go out for a big night out, it is usually because I’m being dragged out to Boudoir or 400.
... more sedate chat: During the week I like to unwind at shisha places or go out for dinner. For shisha, I go to Ayoosh on Sheikh Zayed Road or Reem Al Bawadi in Jumeirah. Then I have dinner at some small, local restaurant. Frankly the best food in town is out there…
...a more sedate chat: Buddha bar or 360°.
My favourite local DJ is... David Newsum and Greg Stainer; they are both great house DJs.
My favourite kind of music is... I love house and I hate R&B! To hear the best house music, I go to 360°…
My best night ever was... A night where I found the best of both my worlds... house and percussion! It was just some random night when I ended up at 360° – there was a DJ playing and a percussionist too. It was like heaven.
Regarding Dubai’s nightlife scene in general, i think... There are so many clubs, bars and parties in Dubai. But at the end of the day we all know that in you are forced to choose between house music or R&B. Also, entry is difficult and expensive in most of the venues here.
